Guys, pay attention to the lyrics as well (you can find them on the official website). Because that's where Gaelle makes the difference. I mean, there are various singers who lay their "soul bare." There's the catharsis of LISA GERMANO that immerses the listener in an oppressive spiral, or the passionate CELLETTI who speaks through her piano, but we are in the classical realm. It’s challenging to achieve that through musical genres we define as DANCE and associate with fun or lightheartedness. Instead...

Socrates, listen to it; I think you'll like it. Unfortunately, I can't upload the samples, but if you go to the link, there are 4 tracks. There hasn't been any promotion for this, and everything has worked through word of mouth (see Amazon).

What they call eclecticism. This outsider is charming. A nice discovery.

Bah... it's hard to believe that it's the same author as Screamdelica. Zero ideas and worn-out sounds. ps: the video is in tune with the track, a stale sandwich that makes you long for the days of Trainspotting.

For neophytes of the eclectic Herbert, this album might be pleasant. For me, who has followed him since the beginning, it’s a bland offering. Scale sounds elegant because it’s mannered, modern thanks to the compositional expertise in the production phase that compensates for a clear crisis of inspiration, and strongly pop (with a short breath) because it makes the most of his partner's vocal abilities. For those wanting to "jump up in their seat," I recommend the electronic "bodily functions," which still sounds fantastic today, and for those who prefer orchestrated played atmospheres, "goodbye swingtime." Perhaps Scale is an attempt to unite these two "worlds," but not always does the sum of the parts succeed. Let's be clear, it's still a good listen, and the lyrics deserve a separate discussion, but for me, it only reaches a three thanks to the splendid "Birds of a Feather."

Well, given the heat and the musical theme, I suggest a Corona (I wonder if it's better in Mexico and, above all, if it exists on draft).

Alright... and then some people get shocked by how the young ladies are treated (see Rai) ps: we await some comments from the fair sex.

Beautiful voice, beautiful atmosphere, but what I find really out of place are the electronic drum beats. They just don't fit, they seem taken from Donna Summer's tracks and just thrown in without any thought... I notice the same "flaw," albeit to a lesser extent, in some songs from the latest Gotan Project album. If you want to make people dance, there are better solutions than the "four-on-the-floor" beat.

"It wasn't punk. Punk had already happened. We were one or two years younger than the punk bands, and I had always loved black music. I used to go to funk clubs, and that's why I wanted to play funk. We really thought we were funky, but we didn't know how to play well, so we played out of time, and that's how we thought we were avant-garde." - Mark Stewart

Great analysis, Odra. This is a record so elusive and overflowing with winks that it makes your head spin. Of course, the first thing that comes to mind is: who knows! But once you get into the game, you have a lot of fun. For curious ears.
