I can close my eyes and make this moment last
This is the story of a mermaid going against the tide. Of a flower that blossomed over thirty years ago in the Afro-Caribbean neighborhood of New Jersey. Of a poetic-musical creature raised among the urban grooves of hip-hop radios and new wave music videos.
Gaelle Addisson owes her stunning beauty to her Haitian roots. Another credit to her parents is having given her one of the warmest, most sensual, and compelling voices on the planet.
The credit for her widespread recognition goes to Eric Stamile, Naked Music producer as well as the man in her life, whom she met at 18 in Atlanta, with a suitcase full of songs in her hand. Because the talent, the interpretation, and the sensitivity all belong to Gaelle, to which we can add a rare but precious gift: humility.
Because with such premises, Gaelle could have easily conquered the stardom of dance music, soul, and the like. Indeed, her first attempt, in 1999, is lethal. "Must be the reason why I'm king of my Castle" is the killer refrain that will invade dance floors all over the world. Where her voice sublimates the quite banal house of the Wamdue Project.
After cashing in the 15 minutes of fame, Gaelle continues to embellish projects oriented toward dance (Ananda Project), soul (Cee-Lo), and hip-hop (Estero). But the girl has grown and the time has come to open her Castle to the transient passenger.
Through all space and time
You've been on my mind
Like a sweet red wine
Come and dance with me
Mysterious. Romantic. Refined. Gaelle's Castle becomes grand upon the first listen.
So made of sounds that seem easy, linear, pop. So suspended between indecipherable neo-soul softness, falsely dance rhythms, and quick shifts into eighties cool jazz territories.
But what hypnotizes the listener is not the music. It is not the impeccable production that sends tracks like "Rain", "Falling", "Give it Back", "Love You More" into a loop.
What makes the listening of Transient an intimate and emotional experience is the strong sensation of witnessing the expression of a genuinely naked soul.
Of a poetic vocation that combines introspective, deep, and never banal lyrics with such a sincere interpretation that it gives goosebumps.
Give it back
You hijacked my mind so
I'm falling in circles
Can't catch my fall so
I need you to be close cause
Where you go I'll follow
So give it back
