But no, come on!! Poor things!! I'll tell you, in my opinion, for a long time GD were a really great "workers'" band: zero popularity, honest '80s Heavy records ("Heavy Metal Breakdown" and "Witch Hunter", above all; in the '90s I would say "The Reaper" and the more than decent "Heart of Darkness"). Zero originality, mediocre technique, questionable vocals, and all that... but the approach and attitude were just right!! Then they exploded with "Tunes…" and that’s when the nonsense and gaudiness began!! If we really want to find scapegoats for the ghettoization of the average metalhead, in my opinion, we should bring up more the likes of Manowar or Rhapsody, I mean the caricatures!!

...I hope you'll forgive the idiotic comment:... but with all the damn albums they've released, you had to review a live one?!?.. by the way... maybe I'm confusing it with the various editions of the Vacca All'Aria Aperta Festival: are you sure they were the headliners?!? I only skimmed the review (work calls..) and I'm not voting on it, but I took a look at the track list: from the '80s stuff only HMB (ooohh ohhhh)?!?.. damn.. at least they could have thrown in Headbanging Man: I remember when I was a kid with piercings, it was pure madness at the concerts when they played it! Well, whatever! Bye!

..I don't know. In my opinion, there are more insights in Zarathustra's comment than in the entire review. The ratings (especially those from the early comments) seem really exaggerated! It's the usual discourse: if one wants to write a third, fourth, fifth, etc. review of an album, I believe they need to have something to say that hasn't already been said.. especially if it's an album that's already too well-known like this one!.. purely personal opinion, of course..

..yes..yes..for goodness' sake!!..I didn't mean to be too polemic (by the way, I agree with your judgment on the album: I stand by my "3", but I concur that there has been worse), it’s just that Axl’s comment (and rating) made me die laughing: "the review is of the right length and QUITE EXPRESSIVE"!!..I hope you'll agree with me that, once you take away the song titles and some tidbits like "Devils is the song that closes the album. Quite nice.", what remains is hardly something you could call "expressive"!! Your reasoning that "better a poorly written review than none at all", I must say, leaves me at least perplexed.. but, as I said at the beginning, I don't want to start a debate! Bye!

@sfascia: thanks again for the "voting issue".. @NeKro: ..well!.. at the moment I can’t think of much.. I’d avoid cursing by bringing up the early Watchtower.. I’d say the early Sieges Even, but with some clarifications: the prog component isn’t that pronounced, the approach is definitely more thrashy (just to give you an idea, think of "Apocalyptic Disposition" on Lifecycle). Perhaps very distantly the Defiance of "Beyond.." (even though their sound is way too Americanized to make risky comparisons), but keep in mind that their album is a full 4 years later, that vocally we’re on two different planets, and that what stands out here are mostly the rhythms. If I wanted to stretch it a bit, I’d say a sort of "Extreme Aggression" but more technical, more calculated, definitely more articulated, with a greater appreciation for melody, yet just as powerful.. For now, I can’t think of any other comparisons.. I fear I haven’t been very clear.. if I think of something, I’ll let you know!

..thank you so much everyone!!..I was afraid it would be too long and I tried to cut it a bit here and there, but the album is complex and I wanted to share a bit about the issues with the Noise..
Rage Lingua Mortis

..well.. Rage are a tremendous band: maybe they never reached epoch-making peaks of popularity, but they have produced excellent albums (from Reflection of a Shadow to The Missing Link, from Black in Mind to End of All Days..) and, above all, they have always maintained an attitude rooted in humility and conviction in what they did. In my opinion, however, the introduction of classical-sounding elements and collaborations with Wolff coincided with a significant drop in the quality level of their output: "The XIII" is objectively a step back compared to "EOAD", in "Ghosts" the songs that stand out are really very few.. so much so that their recent revival actually came with the softening of orchestral components and a return to heavier sounds. "Lingua Mortis" is undoubtedly the most complete album of the orchestral period, but it is still far from being called a masterpiece!.. in many parts it is simply boring and, amidst genuinely successful tracks - In a Nameless Time - there are others that are much less so - Sent by the Devil. I stopped listening to this genre a few years ago, but I remember that this has always been the Rage album that has played the least on my stereo.. In short: an objectively well-written review, but I disagree with the judgment. Bye

..for heaven's sake..it’s all a real blast..the album is beyond discussion..but what the hell does it mean: "Influential and anything but superficial, and I would say fundamental is the demonstrative capacity of what music can convey in the realization of tracks like these" or "The scream of rage from the incredible and flawless voice of Eddie Vedder doesn’t tarnish or dull the fact that even after 14 years since its release, listening to it now feels as if no time has passed".. I understand the enthusiasm, I get that you had your fingers glued to the wall by a magnetic force, but you could’ve at least given it a little re-read..

In my opinion, this and Night Of the Stormrider still represent the peak of their discography. Perhaps the more recent albums are more immediate, less challenging and sprawling, they benefit from better production, etc. etc. but in many instances, they are embarrassingly trivial! Here, there was still a lot of originality and, above all, a pervasive dark sound that enveloped much of the compositions... no stadium choruses, song structures far from canonical, no artwork for kids by Capullo or similar (by the way: what the hell is this cover?!? Where is the awesome one with the engravings from the Divine Comedy?!?)... after Horror Show, I abandoned them; in my opinion, they had already shown their best.
