..if I understood your reasoning correctly, Iron, Judas (and at this point even Rush) suck for you because they are not innovators. And even if they were to be defined as innovators, what they invented sucks because you don’t like it. So we can say everything you don’t like sucks!.. mmm... fascinating reasoning..

(Not) a really well-written review, very heartfelt and I would say enjoyable to read.. In fact, I had heard a lot of good things about the "first version" of this album, complaining about the transformation by Rusticaccio. No need to say that right now - regardless of any musical evaluation - they have shut up.. Well done!

For the "progressive" issue, it's the same story: do you want me to stop calling it progressive thrash and just refer to it as techno thrash (about whose existence, I hope, there are no longer any doubts)? No problem! However, first, take a look at one of the sites you mentioned earlier (metal observer) and you'll find 19 reviews of albums categorized as "progressive thrash" (including, by the way, the first Mekong Delta, which I highly recommend). This is just an example to convince you - I hope - of the interchangeability of the two terms.

"Helstar is a thrash metal band from Houston" + "we used to call ourselves a power metal band with technical parts! Hearing some of it now, I can hear elements of thrash in the music. (www.guitar6.com/modules.php?name=C ontent&pa=showpage&pid=57) / "Authors of a progressive and melodic thrash" (www.drivemagazine.net/helstar.html ) / "The style of Helstar is hard to define (...) at times Bay Area" / "Helstar laid the groundwork for the progressive power metal movement without even knowing it." (www.answers.com/topic/nosferatu-al bum) "This band is a thrash maniac's dream come true. Especially on the 'Nosferatu' album - the others being more power metal/thrash oriented" (www.metal-rules.com/review/viewrev iew.php?month=February&year=2000&po s=8) As you can see, and as you yourself have noted, it's not so absurd to talk about thrash for this album, nor, for that matter, about typically progressive elements. From this, I thought to I N V E N T the term "proto prog thrash." I thought it would be an effective formula to emphasize the combination of aggression and technicality in this album.

...ehm...what do you think I wrote "power thrash opera" in the review?!?..if you're referring to the genre listed at the side of the review, well, firstly, "Nosferatu" is definitely the most aggressive album (I would say "thrashy," but "aggressive" is more neutrally useful) in their discography, and secondly, I've noticed that "power" on this site is mostly used to indicate the German style (and, as you may have noticed, "speed metal" is completely missing from the genres you can choose from...so I would have been wrong in any case?!?:DDD!!). See?!?..your problem always remains the labels! If you want, I’ll call it power, okay?!?..just don’t ask me to call it speed! And anyway, you didn’t respond to my comment about the various albums I mentioned. By the way: Cacophony (of which I only have the first..) may also do speed, but they’re also awful!!

For Odin!! I never said that everything is thrash!! You're the one who insists on calling "speed" anything played over 80 bpm (or even less, like in "Nosferatu")!! "Gates.." has an undeniable speed flair. "Battalions.." is a speed album. I myself have excluded that Riot does speed (but do you read my comments?!?). Defining Agent Steel as speed may not be entirely wrong as long as, as I did in my first comment, you acknowledge their thrash influences. The same goes for Heresy. Honestly, I can't believe you can still call Nosferatu speed... Following your reasoning, "Battalions..", "Gates..", "Skeptics..", "Violence.." and, indeed, "Nosferatu" would all belong to the same genre?!?! Damn, you've shown that you know a ton about metal, is it possible that you can't grasp the differences between the various sounds (actually, between the various albums)?!?.. as for the rest (a parental lecture - completely avoidable, by the way - regarding included presumption) I'll reserve for later.. bye.

6) Finally, I confess that this thing about "getting better informed on speed" is starting to annoy me. Honestly, I don't feel like I have anything to learn from anyone, at least as far as this genre and its related matters are concerned.

5) "Nosferatu," unless you've mistakenly played it at a higher speed on your stereo, is NOT a speed record, simply because it's not fast!!! Sure, some of the rhythms are killer shredders, but the drum tempos are certainly not lightning fast, and the more reflective (even acoustic) moments are plentiful... You don't want to call it thrash?! If you prefer, we could label it an anabolic heavy, but I hope you'll admit that speed has never been the defining component of Helstar's discography.
