Wow, that's exaggerated!! And then ESILARE made me laugh so hard!!!:DDD! A really nice movie: the scene (not that I remember it very well..) where "Rambo talks about his friend who gets blown up by a grenade and all the pieces end up on him or something like that" really struck me! At one point he even says something like "In Vietnam I was responsible for machinery worth hundreds of millions of dollars. Here I can't even find a job as a parking attendant." I think it deserves a 3.5/4! Bye everyone!

...I don’t know... I didn’t find it that similar (except for the part about the cuts which, indeed...), but maybe I read both of them in a hurry and I'm just talking nonsense. What a shame because this movie deserved better...

I extend my previous and heartfelt thanks to geek and bisius (too kind, both of you..thank you!!), poetarainer (..I confess that your compliments make me a bit embarrassed: I just hope to truly deserve them! thank you..) and, of course, to ilpanes: the problem is that I write reviews that are too long!!..most of the time I think it’s really my lack of ability to be concise, but in other cases, like this one, there are so many things to say that some confusion happens. Let me explain. By "reverse suspense," I meant exactly what you said: the contradiction pertains to the "classic" structure of the mystery (the one the audience is used to with other authors/directors/writers), where tension is created by concealing the murderer's face until the end: it's actually the curiosity of discovering WHO the murderer is that keeps the viewer/reader glued. Here, however, the viewer wants to see IF a murderer whose face they already know will be discovered or not. In fact, Hitchy had already used this structure before (the first thing that comes to mind is "I Confess"..), but mentioning it would have further lengthened the review and it didn’t seem necessary!!:DD! You’re really brilliant at talking about the lights too.. I think the touch of class lies in starting the intermittent neon sign attached to the wall of the building in the final minutes: it almost seems like a flashing alarm, a signal for evacuation, in short, it manages to give a sense of urgency to the final lines of the film!! For the rest, thank you so much indeed! Bye!

@Bubi: as far as I know (I don’t know the exact incident..), Hitchy was inspired by the Leopold/Loeb case only for the absence of motive and, let's say, the "intellectual justification," but not for placing the body in the trunk.. can you confirm?!

Hi!! Thank you so much, everyone! @Bubi: you’re completely right! In fact, I wrote the IMDb link correctly... I swear I didn’t realize I had also included the article!!.. Indeed, until the last moment, I was undecided about what rating to give this film (clearly it’s either 4 or 5). As I wrote in the review, the ending has always seemed a bit cloying to me: I mean, you can’t showcase such a cynical and ruthless story and then wrap it up with such a feel-good ending! Hitchcock was too sharp not to notice how unimpactful such an ending would have been... maybe that’s also why he was so critical of this film in the following years! Who knows! Bye everyone and thanks again!

Well done Utopia etc etc! Delirious is the right word!.. when I saw the scene where they play basketball with the vampire's head, I couldn't believe it.. I’ve never figured out whether it's a stroke of genius or just a joke!

The problem, dear emdero, is that even at the level of creative syntax, when compared to certain sacred monsters (let's just think of the immense korn/sofficino, never enough mourned, or the more recent cuntgrinder, banned before it could show us the true light of lsyergic grammar), you are just a poor thing. You don't even make me laugh. That said, there is one thing that concerns me more:@deathinaugust: are you really not planning to review anymore?!? Demoralized by the decline in attention to music reviews?!..the choice is yours, of course, but for me (even if we don't have the same musical tastes) it's truly a great shame! Bye!

I remember that when I first saw it, it was an incredible surprise to find one of my favorite Carver stories ("A Small, Good Thing"... the one about the birthday cake...). It's long and slow, sure, but I believe it's also a great film. The only problem is that just the idea of watching it again a second time might be challenging for some!:DDD! Rece really nice.. it's absolutely true what you say about the character of Paul. Bye!
