Anatas (..I won't tell you the effort I had to make to not write "Ananas" ..please forgive me.. I’m such an idiot..), my doubts are the same as those who came before me: all this incense makes my eyes a bit teary. Also because classicthrash.com gives it just a 6. I’m downloading them now: know that after your review, I expect something fiercer than Sarcofago!

..I vote for the fish named Spader.. even though in this film his goofy face somehow fits. Rather, Koteas doesn’t strike me as Vaughan.. while reading the book, I had imagined him with a less regular face, more "rough"..

Excellent review: it is objective, contextualizes the album very well historically and compositionally, and it's entertaining. I really liked this one!.. there are a few videos of Gerre and company on YouTube where you can see the impressive babbonatalesca evolution of the singer's beer belly over the years.. truly remarkable. The album, as you rightly point out, is decent, but nothing more.. Unforgettable is the closing of Empty Tankard: "We wanna drink some ..whiskey!..we wanna drink some ..beer!"

I agree with the last paragraph of the review up to "but it cannot fail to please, etc etc." It’s true: it’s crude, excessive, exaggerated... and that’s a good and right thing. The problem is that some truly funny moments are alternated with others of infinite boredom (am I remembering wrong or is this film very long??), and some brilliant ideas are followed by others that don’t hit the mark at all. In elementary school terms, it would be said: not entirely sufficient.

At the risk of sounding superficial, I’ll say: ..nothing. Neither the book (which I still find superior) nor the film have ever told me anything; they leave me completely indifferent! So, as I understand it, the basic concept should be the merging of man and machine, which, in the sexual-act clash, cease to be two distinct entities, "sublimating" into a single entity (it's the seatbelts that bleed.. the steering wheel that locks and perfectly adheres to the chest, etc. where does the man end?.. where does the machine begin?), so, in short, the umpteenth film about mutation, right?!.. the problem is that all of this leaves me utterly indifferent; in fact, it seems like nonsense to me. It’s as if I can't accept the "fiction" that someone gets excited watching sheets of metal.. oh well..

Both Pi Greco and Requiem (sorry but I didn't catch if you've seen the film..) are fairly easy to find on DVD (I got the first one as a gift, the other I bought at Fnac..), but you can also find them on the mule in what I would say is more than acceptable quality (Pi Greco is pretty grainy on its own..). I would have gladly seen The Fountain in the cinema too, if only the screening had lasted more than a lunch break.. The version that's circulating on the mule is, all things considered, acceptable (in any case, at least a good video quality is recommended, given some "special effects"), the problem, more than anything else, is that it occasionally goes black and white for a few minutes..

..well!.. more than "very bad," it's "very new age": for a good part of the film, Hugh Jackman is completely bald, dressed as a Buddhist monk, locked inside a kind of energy sphere that wanders through space. Inside the sphere, there's a sort of Eden garden with the elusive "tree of life" from biblical memory, and he chews on its bark. But then it gets all tangled up across three different space-time planes where the same love story repeats itself.. if that sounds complicated and cheesy to you (far beyond my reviews!!:DD!).. well.. know that I've omitted the more "intense" scenes (I would have gladly skipped Jackman-floating-in-space assuming the lotus position). Let's put it this way: Pi was twisted and sick, and I liked it; Requiem For A Dream was tragic and sick, and I liked it. The Fountain, I still haven't figured out if it's a visionary stroke of genius or absolute nonsense..

It's not really my thing, but the review is clear and objective. Too bad about the track by track!

Thank you so much to occulto (Mother Teacher Destroyer is beautiful... maybe even more "out there" than this one... why don't you review it?? I would really risk making a mess there!) and Ghemison (thanks for the honesty of your comment). I eagerly await Mariaelena's return... I'm almost sure she'll try to review The Fountain - l'albero della vita by Aronofsky (she's already reviewed the soundtrack...) I really want to see what she'll come up with regarding the worst cinematic disappointment of the last six months!! :DD
