I know that Russell is not a director particularly liked by many critics, and I'm the first to admit that most of the time he completely lacks moderation and ends up being tedious. But this, in my personal opinion, is a great film. For the sets with that surgical white, the sickly architecture of the convent and the library, for the performances of Reed and Redgrave, for the madness of some dialogues and situations. Perhaps in the exorcism sequence he gets a bit carried away, but in my view, it remains a "powerful" film.

This review struck me: it starts off almost timidly, then gradually builds up. By the end, I had an incredible urge to watch this film again.. Well done.
