I deduce that the fish are doing well! Good review and good album. I'm also part of the Erpland party!

Wow, seriously!! I've been mentally bothering you for weeks to get a review from you on the page, and I almost forgot to comment! :DD Hi Fenni! Lately, it’s a time for very welcome returns.. All we need is good old Francescobus to fix his connection issues. Regarding the album, let's just say that pretty much everything has already been said in the review. With Coroner, it’s like this: the further you go into their discography, the more challenging the listening becomes, and the more enjoyment it guarantees. Great job Fenni, and once again, welcome back.

No no. Believe me, I don’t know a damn thing about stoner/doom/psych, and all that jazz! The users I mentioned to you have been listening to that genre for double my age. Plus, it's a genre where 50 records come out each day, including splits, EPs, reissues, collaborations, and debuts from some totally unknown bands. For every band that breaks up, so many new groups emerge as there were members (sometimes even more...). And there’s a strong homogenization of the offerings: if you don’t give the listens the right time, they all end up sounding the same, and when you go to review them, you end up saying a bunch of nonsense…

Ah! For Sad Wings etc etc. Many consider it the first Heavy Metal album in history. Well... maybe! I mean, it all depends on what you mean by HM! I tell you, I can already hear the heavy germ, you know, in Sunrise by Buffalo, which is about 6-7 years before Victim Of Changes!:D In any case, I would say that just to be safe we can say that Sad Wings is the first heavy album by Judas and let’s cut to the chase!:DD

mmm... keep in mind that I'm not an expert in doom/stoner at all. As far as I'm concerned, I'd "draw" Sleep as the area encompassed by the intersection of three circles: one for stoner, one for doom, and one for sludge (which is basically a kind of doom that's even slower and more rotten). But really, if you want an opinion you can trust, I'd say the best are caz, Antmo, Moonchild, birobiro, El Chupacabra... mmm... the fact that none of these have been around for a while makes me worry about my future...

uh... glam I really don’t think so!! :D If it makes you feel better, I think that for a long time that mess of A Saucerful etc etc will stay in the cellar! Especially since now that I'm starting to work again, it’s almost impossible for me to find time to write.. :((. @OleEinar: um, I’m afraid Nero’s explanation didn’t really clear things up for you (I hope the Master will forgive me!). Let’s put it this way: heavy (or even just metal) is the foundation. Let’s say the pioneering/manifesto band is Judas Priest. If you take heavy and speed it up a lot, you get speed metal. And that’s where it gets funny, in the sense that I’ve already had furious (and embarrassing) arguments about which bands are speed or not. Let’s put it this way: it’s pretty hard to find a band or an album (NOT THRASH) that sounds fast all the time. In short, it’s mostly a different way of understanding heavy. Thrash, in general, is faster than speed and more aggressive, less melodic. The problem is that within the genre there are a few "schools": the German one (more raw: Sodom, Kreator, Destruction), the Bay Area (more technical: Metallica and later Forbidden; Slayer too, but they’re in a school of their own), the New York/East Coast (Anthrax, Overkill). Doom is the easiest to identify: super slow and heavy. Again, there are different schools of thought: there’s the "old school," usually a distortion of the Black Sabbath standards (Saint Vitus and Pentagram), there’s the lyrical/"romantic" style (Candlemass, My Dying Bride), and there’s the stoner and high-drugged scene (Electric Wizard, Acid King). NWOBHM, on the other hand, stands for New Wave Of British Heavy Metal: it was a movement that emerged between the '70s and '80s in England (you guessed it...). The problem here is that it’s hard to find musical traits that unite ALL the bands. In practice, belonging to the movement depends on environmental and temporal factors: English bands + active period. And then everyone includes whoever they want. Generally, everyone agrees to include bands like: Angel Witch (among the best), the early Iron Maiden with DiAnno, Diamond Head, Saxon. But then there’s someone who inexplicably includes Venom and Motorhead. So, if I've helped you clarify your thoughts, I'm glad. Just know that almost definitely someone will come along and tell me I made a mistake by placing this or that band in this category instead of that one. In a few months it’ll be twenty years since I listened to my first thrash album, and even today, browsing the internet, I discover that I still haven’t understood a damn thing! :DD

@blech: so the dialogue about hell/paradise comes from "Angels in America," a TV miniseries from 2004 (I believe), directed by Mike Nichols (the one from The Graduate, just to clarify) and featuring a cast that included people like Al Pacino (who plays Roy), Meryl Streep, and Emma Thompson. If you go to www.spietati.it, you can find a pretty detailed summary. It's very easy to find: you can get it on torrents, at Blockbuster, or at Mediaworld in a nice box set for about twenty euros... if you get a chance, take a look! The rest comes from "Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close" by Jonathan Safran Foer (who is the author of the more well-known Everything Is Illuminated). It's a book I found myself reading during a rather special time, and I am very attached to it... I hope I was helpful to you! :)) Thanks again to everyone!

What a blast: so many people! Thank you all so much! There are a ton of folks here I haven't seen in a while. Some have just come back from vacation (Telespalla, am I wrong?!?), and some we haven't seen around for a while (Fenni: Francescobus and I have summoned your return multiple times! Thanks for answering our prayers! :D) And, most importantly, NERO! Damn, it's been ages since we saw you around here! I'm really glad you stopped by! How are you?!? @Ocram: a well-deserved shoutout. Your nickname and your reviews remind me of a wonderful time on this site. I'm really happy to find you around here! ;)) @blech: unfortunately, I don't think there will be more episodes. At least, not anytime soon. I still have drafts for at least 3-4 reviews in the pipeline. But the problem is that often you end up repeating the same things... I don't know! Thanks so much anyway for the wonderful comment! ;)
