I hope to be able to drop by tomorrow, despite the traffic jam: if you're around, give me a shout and we can have some hot chocolate! ;) The review? Beautiful, analytical, and "technical," but smooth... however, how can I put it, it lacks a bit of soul. It’s missing the love that shines through when you review "L'Italia che ho in mente"! :DD! Hi DeLo!

I promised myself to jump right into this review, and at times I almost forgot! :) Great job Socrates... and sorry for the delay in the corrections!

I keep my distance from the album like it's a stuffed diaper, but the review is very good (and your comment made me smile... :))). Well done!

I saw the OttoOhm live a couple of times many years ago... Great musicians and the singer was quite a decent entertainer. I thought they had broken up years ago!!:D! What I remember most about them is "Oro Nero": one of the (nice) juiciest songs in the history of humanity since the days of cavemen's burps. Love it:

I was quite intrigued by the burst of enthusiasm in the first part! :) Later I'll check out the Skele link. And I really like the Japanese groups!

As for the drop in reviews... I don't know, I have my own idea, but I must say that I am a complete ignoramus, so I am almost certainly wrong. If you look at Debasio's statistics (and webmasters have much more accurate data than good Captain's), you can see that the peak of registrations occurred around mid-2005, when ADSL started to spread in our country. Since then, the internet has become increasingly horizontal: between blogs, forums, and all sorts of things, more and more users have been creating the content of the sites. In practice, it can be said that Debasio (which was born around 2002-3) had a far-reaching vision. Today, review sites with user-generated content have exploded and some have become businesses (see Ciao.it). In fact, some sites that previously did not allow user contributions have adapted. For example, I used to visit Cinefile.biz, a site dedicated to movie reviews. Well, a few months ago, Cinefile started allowing comments on reviews! Then there are the big networks (like the one on books that I can't remember right now... Anoobi, something like that). And then, above all, there are YouTube and Facebook, which for many, many, are practically the only reason to connect to the internet every day. In short: in recent years, not only has the supply of similar "products" increased enormously, but so have the alternatives that "distract" (I don’t even know if Facebook existed in 2005; I certainly had never heard of it). Frankly, I don't know of any review sites like Debasio. I’m talking about editorials written by users, endless arguments, comments in broken Italian, reviews that focus more on the reviewer’s personal life than on the album, the Debaser slang (e.g., "Caso umano," "far cagare giavellotti," or something similar), and the systematic off-topic discussions without anyone bothering you... Maybe there's perkele, which is more of a forum, mainly aimed at fans of a single genre, with a smaller user base. But, of course, I could be wrong…

In my opinion, it is important to keep the two things separate: on one hand, trolling, and on the other, content and dispersiveness. As for the first point, I think there have been periods that, if not worse, I would say are equally full of trolling. If we check, many reviews from the so-called "golden period" that many invoke are stuffed with insults left by anonymous commentators. And, on this point, it doesn't seem like we've just stood by: first, reviewers were given the option not to accept anonymous comments, and then they were completely removed. Among other things, the aforementioned golden period was marked by the presence of particularly aggressive and recidivist trolls (I hope it's clear whom I'm referring to). Was the ban used improperly?! Who knows! It could be... but it has always been a problem: since I've been here, it's always been a continuous "why don't you ban X?", "why did you ban Y?". I genuinely wonder how this problem can be solved. I don't know. Regarding dispersiveness, I've already expressed my opinion: for example, the opening to video games was a huge mistake for me. Truly, it was like a Formula 1 car skidding on a dental floss thong. However, if you look: 1) the thing was requested/supported by some users; 2) the section is "dead" by itself, due to the lack of contributions. So, what I said earlier is true: editors and webmasters can do whatever they want, but ultimately, the ball is still in your (our) court, users. That's why I was making an appeal for responsible participation before: if you don’t want crap, don’t send and don’t encourage crap. If even after this discussion there are people who decide to submit a review on a soccer game and (dozens of) users leave their comments... well, I genuinely wonder what "measures" could be taken. Even when there were only music reviews, there were various Birbabirba & Co. sending reviews about Marco Carta, Avril Lavigne, and their cohorts!! and everyone complained... filling those reviews with comments! The only solution - perhaps - would be to filter the reviews not only based on the quality of the review but also on the quality of the reviewed content. And, I'm sorry, but I (and I believe other editors as well) have no intention of taking on this responsibility...
