Wilbur Smith La Spiaggia Infuocata

@'nazzo: I'm afraid my previous comment might suggest an appreciation that I did not intend to express. To put it a bit more prosaically: Wilbur Smith makes me sick. It's fine to read one of his books to get an idea of his writing style, it's fine to read another while you're at the beach and every other line you're glancing at the topless woman in the next sunshade, it's fine to read another during the flight from Sesto San Giovanni to Beijing with a stop in Cape Town, but then (perhaps) - at least in my opinion - it’s time to dive into something a bit more interesting. "On the Shark Route" isn’t a big book; it’s simply one of Smith’s most effective works: read that, and you can get a perfect sense of what he offers to the reader when he's at his best. That's all there is to it. In short: you haven't missed any masterpiece of modern literature. ;)

@Colionazzo: "On the Route..." is certainly among the most beautiful/more famous (in fact, perhaps the most famous) of Smith. Usually, he prefers the African setting, but I would say it is still quite indicative of his writing style, his characters, and the typical situations. Meanwhile, I checked: the book I read recently is "Where the Rainbow Ends." A bit far from Smith's canons and definitely more ironic.

When I was very young (so, a long time ago...) I read a ton of Wilbur Smith's books. I stopped around the 15th when I realized that: 1) I would never be able to read them all (we're talking about someone who will probably keep writing even in the grave...); 2) the characters and situations tend to repeat quite a bit. A few months ago, however, I found myself stuck in bed for an extended period, and someone gave me to read, I can’t remember the title now (I'll check later...), and I was pleasantly surprised. The review is good because it doesn’t hide the enthusiasm for the author, but it’s not completely lacking in objectivity. Well done.

Without exaggerating, it has been 10 years since I last listened to this album... At least the memories are positive. The proposal is excellent and shows good taste in medals, the review wouldn't be bad, but in some parts it gets a bit tangled. Anyway, I'm really happy with your recoveries. Well done!

It’s you who said, “Honestly, the only negative and/or doubtful judgments I’ve read are here on Deb, but I believe it’s a world apart.” The flaws of the album that emerged in the DeReviews and DeComments (the ones about the album, not the fun ones) are also noted in the reviews linked (excessive length of the tracks, recycling of some solutions, a general feeling of déjà vu…). If you read the comments on the reviews I linked, you’ll find several negative ones (there’s one that even laments No Prayer For The Dying…). Moreover, Allmusic and Rolling Stone don’t seem to me like the ultimate gold standard sources, but I reiterate: I didn’t mean to question the story of interplanetary success, just to say that “doubtful and/or negative judgments” are not a Debaser exclusive. And then, you know how the saying goes: “Few, but good”! :)

No, well... that review should be taken with a grain of salt, because: 1) the reviewer tends to be extremely harsh with their judgments; 2) it was written in July (...). Let's just say it was only to show that if one wants, some "negative and/or doubtful" opinions can also be found elsewhere...

Oh my God... even in June?!? That's why I had no memory of it. Anyway, I confirm that DeB is in good company. Metalitalia gives the album a rather lukewarm welcome (6.5 from the reviewer - 5.9 from users). Medal Shock even goes hard on it: Pagina non trovata. | Metal Skunk On Metallized, the score is positive, but the comments are quite mixed: Recensione Iron Maiden - The Final Frontier - Metallized.it Ah! I believe what you're saying, there's no need for you to send me 200 links to positive reviews... it was just to say that we’re not the only ones with the "cupcake in the ass." That's all.

@Cpt: the address is correct, you just need to scroll a couple of times and read the comments at the bottom of the article. As far as I remember, most refer only to ElDorado, but - if I’m not mistaken - there’s also someone talking about the album...

@schizoid: I think you hadn't arrived around here yet... Let me tell you this story. A few years ago, Truemetal had urged us to remove some reviews from deDatabasio by a user who was a total loser (I think it was Bathoryarea, but I might be mistaken) who had started to copy and paste reviews of historical metal albums straight from truemedal.it, receiving a lot of compliments from the unsuspecting debaser crowd. We, through the user Nickghostdrake, made fun of them a bit (Nick had registered on their forum and started spouting a ton of nonsense about Burzum or something like that...). No one knows why, no one knows how, but after that episode they started receiving DOZENS of reviews about Maiden written by users we had never seen before, which disappeared without even leaving a comment. For about a month, the site was literally flooded with Iron reviews. Were they perhaps "provocateurs" sent by Truemedal?!? Or maybe someone had poured some molten iron into the aquifers of half of Italy? We'll never know. In the meantime, this is all there is to know about shrimp.
