José Saramago Cecità

Among those I have read, this is certainly Saramago's best. To be honest, it was the first book I read by this author and the one that made me fall in love with him. What fascinates and somewhat intimidates me about his books is the fact that the premise is almost always not necessarily impossible, but "surreal," yet the consequences that stem from it are governed by an ironclad and ruthless logic that is taken to its extremes. So much so that even the events of Blindness find their inevitable conclusion in the sequel "Saggio sulla lucidità" (also recommended...). :)

Well... in my opinion, the first half is good. The initial cutting & sewing scene is beautifully tense, the whole sequence with the old lady is excellent, and the arrival of the ice cream man is quite effective too. The problem, in my view, is the usual one present in apocalyptic-themed films: sooner or later, no matter how good or original the initial idea is (and in this case, it's far from original... the first thing that comes to mind is the manga Bastard!), it falls into discouraging clichés like, "Men deserve to survive because there is love." Or other nonsense about hope and good feelings in general. Legion starts off well as yet another rehash of the "Assault on the Fortress" scheme (which from Un dollaro d'onore to Distretto 13 to Night of the Living Dead is one of my favorite subgenres), but it definitely goes off the rails when it tries to justify the melee and, above all, attempts to give a minimum of dignity to an inept and foolish male protagonist. In any case, the archangel armed with a rotating iron bat is awesome.

Incredible: the King is on DeDataBasio with only 6 reviews (half of which are about compilations/greatest hits...). mmm...

Cast-iron panty disc stretched like a Canadian tent during a storm. Even in your case, I can only recommend the reviews of the sacred duo Francescobus - Ocram: the true Treccani of debaser thrash.

So, by the way: is Peter Gabriel’s album really your favorite from 2010?!?! :))

Nice review (a bit spoiler-y, but who cares). The proposal seems really intriguing (especially for those who, like me, still allow themselves the occasional fantasy diversion...), but... 794 pages. Given the time I have to read, we'd find ourselves on 12/31/2011 talking about the end of the first chapter.
