"they would never have been a group for stadium anthems." In my opinion, the exact opposite is true. I've listened to the first three Foo Fighters albums in their entirety, and the feeling has always been the same: decent albums, if not barely sufficient when listened to from start to finish, but with those two or three hits that were rightly chosen as singles and paired with highly effective looped videos on MTV. I believe the Foo Fighters had at least two advantages over the hundreds of bands that play the same exact "pop-rock-pompo" and fade away after a couple of good singles and a decent album: a frontman with an already large following but without excessive ego, and a tight-knit lineup (they might hate each other and sleep with each other’s girlfriends, but the feeling is almost always that they enjoy playing together). Because, musically, they have always seemed rather insignificant to me, aside from those two or three FM hits I mentioned. Make no mistake, I don't want to come off as an indie snob: I quite like Grohl, he's a great drummer, he's an excellent stage performer, he's a big music nerd who, as soon as he had the chance, indulged in playing with his musical idols, but...

No. But if they keep making piles of crap, it's easy for us to lose our patience.

You are a great piece! I love the idea that they start off all precise and flashy and then gradually fall apart and explode. Great recommendation. I’ll get these. If I pass by your area, I'll treat you to a beer and give him a generous tip.

"In the depths of his unexpressive eyes, one can read the concern of having found something more lethal than himself and the bitterness of having eliminated it." Damn, this is the comment of the week. And it’s only Monday!!

I really listened to it very little: at the time of its release, I was all caught up in my thrash fixation and the RW sounded too "soft" for my ears. I still remember it as a rather anonymous album, tired, with few truly notable ideas. It was probably a fate already sealed for a band (an artist) whose proposals and themes haven't changed in over a decade. Honor, however, to Rock'n Rolf for giving us excellent pages of heavy metal and honor to Hellring for reviewing them for us! :D

The most beautiful thing about metalheads is the musical digressions. Because, let’s face it, the raw and unrefined metal—the ignorant, extremist kind with slices of caciotta on your ears—lasts at most a few years, usually between 15 and 21, and it almost always coincides with that phase of your life when masturbation occupies a good part of your thoughts, words, deeds, and omissions. Then something clicks, a light turns on; you realize that just making a CD with "Forever" by Stratovarius isn’t enough to score a kiss—sometimes taking a shower helps, and little by little you soften up. Musically too. A good number of metalheads I know have dived into '70s rock first and then into stoner. Another good chunk likes to act cool and has started listening to fusion (usually those are the ones obsessed with some instrument). Then there are those who have really turned a corner and now listen to heavy electronic music or some Estonian collective that plays nothing but depleted uranium bars to protest against the war. Only a very few remain loyal to the sacred fire of metal. Usually, those are the ones with shaved heads and long hair in the back, maybe with a little ponytail.

I recently discovered them because they were mentioned several times in the review of Cobalt (one of the latest - and increasingly rare, for me - pleasant surprises in the extreme genre). I wanted to listen to the latest Tides (which I've read great things about) or White Tomb, but so far I've only managed to listen to stuff on MySpace because it seems they have removed all download links around the interworld. Would anyone be willing to lend a hand to poor Bartolomeo, perhaps even in private (to a good listener...)?!
