Thanks Hal... very clear and very much aligned with my views. I hate all the fucking know-it-all intellectuals who manipulate thought. ENOUGH!

Tano, your reasoning is correct but incomplete. Let me explain: it's true that records should be listened to "as records." However, there are certain situations where the CD is definitely more suitable. For example, King Crimson: they have dynamics of volume levels that are TRULY at opposing ends: they go from very low volume to high volume. And the "quiet" parts are quite difficult to hear without the support of the CD. I tried to listen to Island or In the Court of... or The Crimson King on vinyl and the low parts get drowned out by the needle's crackling. Another example: classical music in general, or think of Keith Jarrett's records: how can you miss out on his little cries of pleasure as he gets excited with his improvisations? With vinyl, you can't appreciate that. Perhaps this isn’t the case for this album, but I can't say for sure beforehand. In my opinion, contemporary records (even if remastered), when well done, shine more thanks to digital support. As for Hal: mmmm... in my opinion, that "Across the Universe" you’re referring to is indeed from the Anthology... I think they've recycled some material, but that's how it is...

Good job, Hal. I agree with the rating; in all the Beatles albums, the rating can never go below the maximum assigned. Is the sound valid? In my opinion, for someone who already has almost everything, this record could be much more interesting than others, like ONE, the stupidest thing in history: I have it but I’VE NEVER UNWRAPPED IT! The only thing is, I already have Anthology three (well, I also have two and one, and the five DVD box set!) and I wouldn’t want these “naked” versions to be nothing more than those already present in the aforementioned anthology. Can you give me more information?

It's a shame that Tonight is perhaps the worst album by the Gran Maestro... Anyway, you did well to get it, the first song "Lovin' the Alien" is one of my favorites (he played it in Milan acoustically: brrrr... chills down my spine, I get goosebumps just thinking about it now!), then there's "Blue Jean" which isn't bad at all and the drummer, Omar Hakim, is always a pleasure to hear. Well done Sere, I'm finding you more and more likable :o) Have you listened to the double BBC Session? Te piacevesef?

Well, come on Elf, you can't say that Master Jimi's technique is superior to Joe's!!! Jimi's compositional ability is infinitely superior, but the technique, nooo... And let's not even talk about "slow hand," comparing his left hand to Joe's is a gamble that I don't agree with. Almost everything by Steve Vai is excellent, I recommend you follow this listening scale: 1. Alien Love Secrets 2. Fire Garden 3. The Ultra Zone, then if you want you can take two directions: the "Frank Zappa" direction which relates to Vai's production both with Frank himself and as a solo artist (in particular, I recommend the mind-blowing Flex Able); or the Hard Rock direction, as a guitarist for groups like Whitesnake, Alcatrazz, and with David Lee Roth. But the first three I've listed are indispensable, especially for anyone studying modern guitar... Avoid "The Elusive Light and Sound" because it sucks!

Well, four concerts in Italy and four photocopied setlists: if they were really one of "the greatest live bands around," maybe they could let themselves be carried away more by the spirit of improvisation. Conversely, since improvisation is completely absent, I feel confident in stating the opposite. They're good at reciting their script, nothing more. If a fan were to catch two or more dates on the tour (I know a thousand people who follow Bowie across half of Europe and each concert has four or five different songs...) they would be damn disappointed, almost bored, by the fact that they never change a thing. A sign of immaturity.

For Kosmo: leave Steve Vai alone, you know I could get upset... ;-) For Elfo: which would be the "technically more evolved predecessors"? I think you meant to say "successors"... I question your decision to describe this album as hard rock because it goes against Satriani's logic to make an "untouched" album, with the exception of "Joe Satriani" from 1995 which is an homage from the axeman to the blues of the 70s. Furthermore, I dissociate myself from the description of the "progressive slowing down of the solos" as a defect, as it is now widely accepted that the asymmetry and dynamics of the solo parts are a prominent and SOUGHT-AFTER feature (thus not random or due to poor execution) of Joe's technique, diligent in applying himself to avoid the "flattening" of his lines.
