THE REVIEW

1994: "Low" is released, a heavy and fierce album by Testament.
During the year, however, problems arise: John Tempesta leaves the band right at the beginning of the subsequent tour, and as if that wasn't enough, Billy and co. are forced to leave their label, Atlantic, due to the lack of promotion for the latest album.

1995: the year of yet another turning point.
Jon Dette (formerly of Slayer) is called in to fill the vacant spot behind the drums. Billy and Petterson, the "invincible" Testament, establish their own label, Burnt Offerings.

The fortunate consequence of these 2 very troubled years for the thrash metal band is precisely this album.
The record label is inaugurated for the first time, "Live at the Fillmore" emerges as a collection of the best songs by Testament from "Low" onwards. Recorded at the legendary Fillmore in San Francisco, the live album offers a very strong and powerful sound, thanks also to a cohesive line-up eager to unleash the accumulated anger over these last two years.
As always, the leader of the formation is the great Chuck Billy, who delivers lethal growls coming directly from the bowels of the earth. His booming voice thunders over the entire audience, which, swept away by the band's extreme ferocity, greatly appreciates the entire concert. The guitar duo Murphy-Petterson proves precise and cutting. Performed to perfection with monolithic prowess, chilling solos and deadly riffs, supported also by the bass of Greg Christian. The new drummer, Jon Dette, appears in great shape, thrilling the audience with pressing tempos and really heavy snare hits.

The standout songs are undoubtedly "The Preacher," the opening track, "Alone In The Dark," monstrously sung by Chuck, "The New Order," "Practice What You Preach," and the always dark "Soul Of Black."
The album is divided into 17 tracks, 14 live and 3 ballads performed acoustically, probably in the studio.
One of these is magnificent: "Return To Serenity." The initial acoustic guitar intro is as spectacular as Billy's soft voice, which, together with a female vocal, makes one of the most beautiful metal ballads ever even more exciting.

An excellent live album, this one from Testament. Made with so much anger, power, and a desire to start over.
