@gustavo: do you know what the problem is, the most serious problem...? it’s just like the way the professor has sold and is selling this little opera... look it up online, you’ll find some interviews....: as a courageous, unpublished work, a borderland, something infinitely poetic... it’s well known that every artist, for most mysterious reasons, tends to get attached to their worst work... but here, really, we’re not even close... is he convinced of what he says...? hasn’t he realized it’s a collection? doesn’t he notice (I fear not) that he sings worse than he used to...? mahhhhh

Thank you all... great discussion. And thanks also to the 2 (thankfully only 2…) who find me: bourgeois one and inferior as usual the other. Of course, you can allow a bit of bourgeois mannerism to a bourgeois lawyer and Sprinstinian forty-year-old… right?
Just 2 tiny notes: @supersoul: our distance is indeed marked by the opinion on the latest Iggy... for me absolutely genius and highly evolved...
@gustavino: your opinion on Adriana Lima will have my seconds knocking at your door.
Kisses to everyone.

I would never shy away from the little ranking game that, I emphasize, must be absolutely personal: 1 Parade 2 Purple Rain 3 Around The World In A Day 4 Sign Of The Times 5 Lovesexy (as you can see, and as anyone who knows me would expect, it's only and solely eighties uber alles). Kisses... (PS: of all the subsequent ones, for me, the best are Gold Experience and Planet Earth)

But, you know, there’s always an undeniable margin of subjectivity, often tied to personal or very personal experiences… (for example, for me - for romantic reasons that I won’t explain - ā€œthe power of loveā€ by Frankie Goes to Hollywood is the most beautiful song of all time… but I don’t think it’s true). The problem is the role that we can or want to give to standards… first of all: do they exist? Kisses

@joe cavalli: I'm not sure where you found the source stating Sting's disdain for the track... I’m a seventh dan black belt in Sting & Police but I've honestly never read that. Can you update me? Also, I'm not entirely in agreement with the "easy" turn of the song and Sting's subsequent career, considering that the Blue Turtles were anything but a banal or commercial project (think about it: today it would sell three copies, if - even - a producer could be found...). Kisses

@woodstock: too bad, I'm sorry (even though others seem to disagree)... the latest Woody Allen is on its way and the new Spands... I hope to make it up to you... kisses

@pannzzone: I agree on this. It's not a monument of harmonic inventiveness. Just like "Emozioni" or "Il mio canto libero" by Battisti, and like "Marinella" by Faber, to name a couple. It's the ability to construct a perfect song (melody + harmony + arrangement + interpretation) that I emphasize. Then, of course, one can disagree. But for me, the characteristics are there, and I believe that the majority of the public, critics, and musicians see them too (which, in itself, I think already makes it a masterpiece)... kisses.

@francesc: then, if you think about it, the history, especially of pop, is dotted with genius singles from true shooting stars... of which you can barely remember the name... I don’t know, wouldn’t it deserve a review "feels like heaven"? or "dance all days"...? staying in pop... if we then move to singer-songwriter... major and minor.... oh my, a lifetime isn’t enough.

I was replying, of course, to francesc...with the jack daniels up here the agreement is total.

In the sense that here, always (trust me… go check out my reviews and see how long I’ve been around…), success is an automatic synonym for sold-out gigs… whereas in my opinion, there are deserved successes (essentially, those that last) and others that are hyped up and useless… lumping everything together is a mistake. That beautiful niche albums are also discovered here on DeB is another matter (and it's a very positive fact; otherwise I wouldn’t be hanging around…). Kisses
