Sorry for the endless ramble! I wanted to talk about Six by Seven, produced (as always) by the great Dave Fridmann. There was still a ton to say, "Amid changes in course, defections, mutinies, and adversities of all kinds, the story of the English band Six By Seven has progressively turned into a struggle for survival" (Antonio Puglia in "Il Mucchio Selvaggio" and "Sentire Ascoltare"). It took seven years to convince a record label to release their first album (The Things We Make). They were fired (according to them) or resigned (according to Six By Seven) after the third album. From "04" onwards, the band produced everything in total autonomy. Since their first self-produced album, they entered a tunnel of obscurity, completely ignored and forgotten by the larger audience (a real shame: the first three albums regularly appeared in the best-selling charts, always entering progressively higher positions). "These songs were worthy of an album compilation... and, besides, we need your cash..." Chris Olley said regarding the release of "Left Luggage" (honor to honesty). In 2005 they broke up because they realized they had hit rock bottom, but then they got back on their knees. A couple of solo albums for Olley, including "Twelve," which is nice. Anyway, they continue to see no hoped-for results: the band "seems doomed irrevocably to a semi-obscurity that, in their case, becomes almost an indispensable and characterizing element." (again from Antonio Puglia's review, which I recommend). Ole!
