Leonard Cohen New Skin for the Old Ceremony

Stunning, it's the first time I've ever read such a long review without stopping (though I have to say I've been a bit influenced by Turkish). Since I'm not a big fan of Cohen, can any of you tell me to which album 'Hallelujah' belongs?

R.E.M. Out Of Time

So, when it comes to REM, I always feel compelled to elaborate, and there's a reason for that (sorry, but I’ll keep it to myself). "Out of Time" is a strange album within the REM discography. Strange because it doesn’t have a center. I like to regard it as the 'pop' album of REM, where, for example, 'Up' is the electronic album, 'New Adventures in Hi-Fi' is the rock one, 'Monster' is the punk one, and so on. First point of interest: 'Country Feedback' is one of the 3 most beautiful songs by REM, one of the top 10 - in my opinion - of all time. Wonderful lyrics, unforgettable vocal performance. It alone is worth the purchase. You mentioned 'Shiny Happy Bla Bla.' The same goes for 'Near Wild Heaven.' Wonderful songs alternate with inexplicable drops in quality. On the other hand, Stipe himself stated multiple times that he hated these songs and repudiated them. The fact is that REM was fed up with paying their dues. They spent the '80s producing amazing albums that sold, at their peak, 'Green' (another work that already hinted at a push toward radio-friendliness) selling 1 million copies in a year. On the other hand, if you compose an album like 'Document' and sell 500,000 copies while 'Hootie and the Blowfish' sell 15 million with a lame album, you get the urge to write 'Get Up' or 'Stand.' In the end, what matters is that you throw in a 'World Leader Pretend' that stabs straight to the heart and makes you forget the resentments. For me, even a single REM song placed among 20 duds makes it all worth a 5.
