William Axl Rose, you in particular (in the Viking lineup) are a phenomenon. Write about it big time! I'm with you, long live the Savoy!

Yes, but is this Vark Vikerness more of a Superman style or a Super Mario Bros?

Mark Kozelek is the only one capable of composing a "nighttime" album that I can play at night without ever having fallen asleep before the end. Never, ever has it happened. And he is the only one. Once I even managed to fall asleep with Nick Drake (and I felt awful for a week), but with Mark, with Mark never. It has never happened. I have never dozed off before the end.

a beautiful album, a must-have at all costs. A sea of people with balls, really big ones. Above all, the combo of the AMAZING Sparklehorse-Flaming Lips. Get it, you disgusting lot!

(THIRD PART - THE COVERS) Simply the most beautiful ones I've ever seen. Is there even one that isn't stunning? But have you seen this one? This one from this album? Spend a few minutes on it. Dissect it, study it, imagine being there, being able to touch that bed, to smell the scent of that room. Can there ever be a more simple yet complex image? They are all like that, all the covers, all the works, including the solo ones.

(PART TWO - KOZELEK SOLO) Then, after the Red House adventure, my EXTRAORDINARY hero goes off on his own, which basically means he abandons the old name and uses his first name instead. Obviously, the songs lose depth in the arrangements, gaining a greater dryness; they are skeletal, stripped down to the essentials, for the most part just voice and guitar (Nick Drake of the new millennium? I assure you, it’s not just a throwaway comment). At this point, I can make a distinction, express a preference, also because the music takes a different path. And the solo Kozelek becomes even more extraordinary, adding the missing piece to perfection: the rawness. Bitter and simple compositions, a couple of chords and the voice - and what a voice, let me tell you. Well, I could sit here writing forever. What can you do - when I fall in love, it’s a mess.

Okay. You've touched on one of my SUPERIOR heroes. I'll cut to the chase with your review and say it's beautiful; well done, because I myself wouldn't be able to write anything about it (maybe because I love that guy too much). Well, that guy. The Red House Painters ARE Kozelek. Nothing more, nothing less. Gems set outside of all space and time, pearls of wonderful and delicate beauty. If it were up to me, I would propose a mandatory purchase of each of the Red House Painters' works for everyone. But alas, that can't be done. I wouldn't even be able to tell you which one I consider the best, because for me they are all wonderful.
