Madonna Confession on a Dance Floor

I would add that in my opinion she does not follow the will of the majors; she herself has become a major, her brand is now a trademark! And this is not meant to be a defense of hers because my statement is the furthest thing from "praiseworthy" for a true artist; it's just that one must give Caesar what belongs to Caesar…

The "products" of the major label don’t last that long (and that would be a first!), because sooner or later they pour their money and ideas into younger artists with more commercial appeal to the youth, and at the first flop, they get dumped (and Madonna has certainly had her share of flops!)... In short, a few days ago I read in a newspaper a line that I agree with: "Madonna is not a product but a producer"... exactly, she is not a musician but a sort of industry; however, I believe that in this case, she is the one who truly has control over this industry.

But Madonna and Kate Bush are incomparable! Really, we are talking about two completely different musical worlds; acknowledging some "merit" in Madonna's realm certainly doesn't mean undermining "real artists" like Bush, who will always be ahead of her. Here it’s a matter of evaluating the album for what it is...among other things, Price is an excellent producer and has done a great job, so I really don't think it’s "shit." If you don't like Madonna's easy-peasy choruses, that's another story...

Lele, on Aerial, I completely agree with you, but not everyone, not even Bjork, has the professional honesty of a Kate Bush or a Peter Gabriel. As for her latest productions, it's true that they appear a bit too cerebral and self-referential, yet in my opinion, Bjork's stylistic journey is much more linear and logical than it seems. Up until Homogenic, she progressed through "addition," then she began to "subtract" until reaching Medulla, an essentiality that definitely does not renounce what came before; in fact, I find that an album like Debut has a lot in common with Medulla. You mentioned a piece like The Anchor Song; try listening to Medulla again with that in mind.

Come on, "genius" is a strong word (and I say this as a fan of Madonna)... the review is in a sense truthful, but I don't understand why criticize an album when its declared purpose is precisely to be "cute, danceable, and 80s" (70s, 90s, I add) as the reviewer rightly points out. Madonna has always been, and still is, a trendsetter as a character but not musically (except for William Orbit's sound, which had its followers)... in short, with this album she doesn’t aim to invent anything new (she never has), it's simply a kind of tribute to disco/electro-pop from the 70s to today. I find it fun, enjoyable, and well-constructed, and attributing meanings to it that it doesn't have is a sign of how, for better or worse, too much importance is given to Madonna... it’s just a well-made dance music album.

A fundamental album, like all of Bjork's, certainly the most accessible... Bjork is an artist who makes music primarily out of her curiosity to experiment, not caring about the public's response. She could have coasted on her success by continuing to make "catchy" records like this one, but instead she chose to gradually change her style... I appreciate her like I appreciate all artists who put themselves on the line in this way.

Actually, my nickname was meant to be just a tribute to Gabriel; at the time of choosing, I didn't think about the producer... and reviewing the records he produced might require adequate preparation, I'm not sure if I would be up to it. Reviewing Madonna is undoubtedly easier, even if less satisfying in terms of comments ahahah! As for Deeper&Deeper and Hung Up, I find them similar from a melodic point of view, though certainly not in terms of sound... anyway, I also prefer the first one!

Thank you, but what’s the flaw? I want to know so I can improve my mistakes! I agree that there’s little "soul" in what she does, but after all, in the pop-dance genre, it’s not that fundamental. We are still talking about mainstream music... it’s obvious that you can’t compare Madonna to the great artists of rock music; in my opinion, she should be framed within a specific context.

The flaw of Madonna's detractors is the same as that of her most ardent fans: they cannot look beyond the "controversial" character. There is never anyone who objectively judges, arguing what good or mediocre things she is capable of. Since this is my first review, can someone, regardless of the artist and album in question, tell me if it’s well written or poorly done, and how I can improve (please don't comment on musical tastes because thank God I've taken care of that for years :))...thanks, bye!!!
Simply Red Simplified

I've always liked Simply Red a lot; Hucknall is a fantastic interpreter and when he puts his mind to it, he's a great composer in the pop-soul genre (the latest album, Home, confirmed that). But this time I refused to buy this record, which really feels like a commercial operation and immediately reminded me of Bublè and company... in short, a real disappointment! It seems that next year there will be a new album of unreleased tracks, "Amplified"... I hope he sets aside these Latin sounds that really get on my nerves...
