The Dream Syndicate Live at Raji's

Well, they actually had a review on DeBaser about a year ago, but it was really too... stingy Medicine Show - The Dream Syndicate - Recensione di kidkongo - This one, on the other hand, does them justice and makes me curious, since I don't know this album (by the time they broke up, I wasn't following them anymore - for me, the best is in 'Medicine'). I do have the one by Thin W.R. and I can confirm it’s a truly tasty double (but I'm a fan of the guys and I might be biased).

Leonid, who do you think wrote the first little page dedicated to them, here in DeB? :) - Not you?

What you say about the evaluation of many jazz musicians regarding this record is true. In fact, it was precisely jazz musicians who compelled me to buy it, ages ago. The best after Kind of Blue? Is it really necessary to always create rankings? Of course, they all sound amazing and the album is a gem... I don’t know, I know that as usual your page is brilliant and seems in some way "contagious" from the music it describes. Congratulations.

I don't know... I quickly listened to the album and I have to say it seems to be a record without any particular praise or condemnation. It certainly doesn’t seem to showcase any remarkable compositional talent or original ideas. You could probably give it a passing grade, but if this is all there is to Doherty's talent, then it's just much ado about nothing.

The album is available online, actually, in 37 seconds I’ll be able to listen to it. I'm quite curious, because the guy, despite automatically disgusts me (gossip aside, he just has one of those faces…) has some form of musical talent, I think.

In the meantime, during the lunch break, I stopped by the newsstand and grabbed the last copy of the DVD they had, so I can watch it again, since I saw it in theaters like 30 years ago or more. I didn't know all the things mentioned in Supersoul's posts, and in that context, the definition of horror is certainly more understandable. As for Lynch, I remember that when I first saw Eraserhead, also in theaters, this movie came to mind... - I would also love to read a page from Supersoul about the film he mentioned and find out if there's a way to get it in a "modern" format...

Of course, I believe it is not up to Purpulan or anyone else to decide what is relevant and disclosable (maybe everyone has the right to decide for themselves, or not?) and therefore it would be good practice to avoid the widespread tendency to describe the plots of the films in question. And, of course, I do not agree with the idea that we should force the meaning of a term, whose sense is quite commonly shared, such as horror, just to include this film, which objectively has a different structure, a different temporal placement, a different semantic context compared to what is traditionally understood within the genre (it is definitely a genre film, with all possible "anomalies") horror. But obviously, these are considerations that stem from personal conceptions of cinema and are therefore debatable. Mine as well as others'. Among which I find it interesting to note Leonid's reading...

@Antmo: Megafuzzu, listen to M.I.A.'s album and you’ll magically find out how much it could fit with B.B. (she's tough, the album, which is not your usual stuff, is good) - @puntiniCAZpuntini: I expect nothing, I observe that this is the most "predictable" album by B.B. that I've heard. And I even like it, like a 3.5.

As I was saying, it's available in newsstands at a ridiculous price. So, CJBS, buy it and then, possibly, turn it off. I wouldn't call it a horror. It's worth watching. I notice that among your favorite films is "La Grande abbuffata." Strange, for a 20-year-old...

Well, I don't know this one and I'll get it. It strikes me a bit that in the list of Italian jazz musicians (and in a review of a Coscia album) Bollani and Rea are included but not Trovesi. ;)
