When one dispenses analyses and suggestions of such acumen and usefulness, it is a public service, dear Neo-Romantic. A commendation.

Yesterday I discovered that a guy has opened a store (while others are closing) just a hundred meters from my house, and it’s exclusively for vinyl records. Mostly mainstream stuff, but an impressive amount of records, all very well kept. Inside, there were only people in their forties, and quite a few of them. Soon I’ll take a closer look at the records. Anyway, I was really surprised to find this shop. P.S. Given the coincidence, Fiquata? even in the little page it refers to that year, YOUR 1980…

But why does it sometimes double my comments?

Mhh, a bit of a forced comparison, but it holds up when related to the surrounding scene of those years. And guess whose little page on the young marble giants is here on DeB... the CD I think you're talking about is the one I bought back then also to be able to include the samples in the review, which was a bit complicated with the vinyl.

Yes, a refreshing splash, anomalous in the somewhat claustrophobic landscape generated by the music of those years, after the ground zero of punk. A splash that will soon freeze, leading to their best album, in my opinion, the one that's been dug up most frequently over the years for a spin on the turntable, that "This Is The Ice Age" featuring Lanois’ sister on bass and him collaborating and co-producing the record. And the sound, already atypical before, that hybrid described by Fiquata, becomes even more precisely defined, a little gem that doesn’t repeat the trick with a catchy single like "Echo Beach" but holds strong throughout all the tracks, still sounding fresh today. - The cover of Metro Music is a concept by the group and was designed by Saville, another name that in those years signed so much great stuff.... On the vinyl, in the inner sleeve, a stunning aerial photograph of a portion of the cover map, and inside, photos of the band, faces and outfits that are absolutely not cool. If I can manage to set up the turntable tonight, I’ll listen to it again.

Ugh, read the other ones by Socrates, it's a nice read (and always good records).

@NEWROMANTIC: I see you’ve planned a second part for this topic. Well, it seems very useful to me.

Well, Fiquata, try reading "The Eternal Husband" by Dostoevsky; humor is a strong word, but there's much more irony than one might expect. It seems like a rather unknown book. When I was 12 or 13, I read "Six Characters in Search of an Author" by Pirandello, and I liked it a lot. As I got older, I was a bit disappointed, but today I might reevaluate it for other aspects; however, I just can't find a place for it among the things I want to read in the coming years... - This book here, from the review, I think I started reading it when it came out, but I never bought it. However, I happened to see the film, which is quite bad, but I liked it. By now, I think it's too late for me to read it, although I did get a bit of a desire to do so after reading the review.
