brilliant tail strikes from the best debaserians
Prince Purple Rain
Voto:
Album-simulacrum of an era, more than any other princiano... As for the impact on the public, at most a 6-5 compared to Born In The USA, Massi: Purple Rain sold around 14 million copies... anyway, magnificent review, and a new subscriber to the Debaser fan club of Prince! In my personal ranking, it comes in third after Sign O'/1999/ and tied with Dirty Mind.

I was talking about a constant journey, though the quality of the works I've mentioned is still debatable. After all, perhaps it's like this for every work of the prince post-sign or the times: for every album, there are those who claim it's a masterpiece and those who say it's a misstep. Perhaps no artist has such a controversial following. For every album, there's the adoration like "the great return to form" or "the umpteenth album with some insight but that doesn't convince, a sign of unresolved crisis." Personally, I think that in the last ten years, the truly valid albums have been Emancipation (especially for the second CD) and The Rainbow Children (which still requires many listens before being appreciated fully, but once understood, it’s a bomb of unprecedented retro-funk). One Nite Alone I unfortunately have never listened to because I've never found it (except in the triple Live format for which I still have to find the money). Yeah, better than Roxy's ladies, but even better are some of Millie Jackson, the Ohio Players, and Berté from her green years... I love you corazon, perhaps the worst single of prince ever (and he has released some ugly ones, like The Greatest Romance ever Sold, for instance, the first that comes to mind)?

The fact is that Prince experimented too much with our ears and our wallets... honestly, I hoped that after The Rainbow Children, N.E.W.S., and Musicology there would be a certain continuity of intent, a serene stability (which has been lacking since Lovesexy)... the review is splendid, you said everything I would have said too, even though the cover isn't really that scandalous... so if we take Papetti or Roxy Music, should we censor them outright? Well done, again. And excellent album, Lovesexy.

Yes, it’s shameful. But at least they got one thing right. The title. Great Ale, write more often, trust me! We need to come up with many more facial paralysis... (rating 0.1 just for the title)
Tears For Fears The Seeds Of Love

I don't know who's more incredible, the album, the review, or these fantastic comments (Antonio above all, almost a DEep dive on the tears)... everything still feels alive. From the latest album, beautiful "Who Killed Tangerine?"
John Legend Get Lifted
Voto:
Well done anyway, Soc, for talking to us a bit about soul in these cold and inhospitable days... and described the way you did, even Get Lifted seems like a gem to me. Is it sacrilege if I compare it (with the right proportions) to "Arrivi e Partenze" by Neffa (2001)? Love, style, not genius but plenty of taste, pop cleverness, feisty arrangements, a tradition beautifully revisited, dominated by a simple yet enthusiastic soul?
John Legend Get Lifted

I quote what Mr. Nobody said. Not bad, but if there were really some great black artists around, this would be a mediocre black artist. The form is impeccable, he is an excellent musician and a good interpreter, but do we have to settle for John Legend? rating 3.5
Prince And The Revolution Parade
Voto:
Compact and brilliant from start to finish, a prototype of Sign O'... and it's a unique album in Prince's career; as eclectic as he is, he has never managed to replicate a little masterpiece in the vein of "parade." Although Lovesexy might be trying... primiballi, tell me it's impossible... rating 4.5 and compliments to flood.
