thanks to the few but good commentators. I discovered this record almost 15 years ago thanks to a friend of my sister's (who also introduced me to Motorpsycho and Pavement, just to name a couple) and I dusted it off last summer - the soundtrack to a rather challenging time. thanks again to everyone.

I open a parenthesis: Azzo, at the first meeting (I believe, I'm going from memory) between Bob Mould and Ian MacKaye, the former addressed the latter saying "Straight Edge sucks" (you can find it in Azerrad's book "This Band Could Be Your Life"). Are you really sure they were among the proselytes?

The ToD might remind you of Sonic Youth for their use of unconventional tunings (the guitars in A Perfect Teenhood are tuned to F, to name one). Aside from that, I don't see many similarities; as I've written elsewhere, their visceral approach (at least in the early albums) is in some ways the exact opposite of the intellectual and "arty" style of Moore and company.

Thanks to everyone who commented and also to those who just read. Not much to add: the TOD surprised me, and quite a bit, because unlike their recent albums (rather lackluster, IMHO), it was still worth seeing them live. Note on the Belgian audience: this wasn't the case, but it’s really hard to see them contest anyone on stage (unlike the Italians, just to name one).
