Taking this page seriously (because as Bartle pointed out, the smell of being taken for a ride is indeed palpable), I can only say that the analysis of the Lega phenomenon completely ignores the fact that this party has quickly aligned itself with the most despicable Roman practices of political power management. Let’s skip over Bossi and the others’ radical populism: to give the example of Belgium, where I live, the Lega’s positions on immigration are irreconcilable with the governance of public affairs (to the point that Vlaams Belang, a politically related movement to the Lega Nord, is ostracized by other parties despite receiving 20% of the votes in the elections; and the right governs in Belgium).
And where Italy truly needs bold reforms (the privatization of Rai and the normalization of the broadcasting market being the first that come to mind), the Lega hasn’t and will never stick its nose in. With the left in utter ideological confusion, this is yet another confirmation that this can never be a normal country.
