Listening to the albums by dEUS (particularly their album the Ideal Crash) and Eels (try Electro-shock blues) could be useful to reconsider these statements of yours. Then one can always say - as you do - that pop is crap; however, I see that your unacknowledged guru Scaruffi even gave an 8 to Eels, so if you trust him (and from the list of albums you consider essential, I would say you do), I would give them a listen.
