I heard that for others the night was longer because they had to walk 4/5 km to reach the place where they had parked the car, manage to get onto the highway ramp and then endure a queue of about 4 hours. It was an unforgettable night and I believe that this year, August 21, 2004, will be yet another unforgettable experience. The only advice is: bring yourself some water to drink!

We instead made our way to our car and watched in awe at what was happening in Melpignano. In Melpignano, there is nothing but houses. There’s no bar, no newsstand, and perhaps not even a pharmacy. To satisfy the horde of 55,000 locusts, there were plenty of stalls and vendors selling beer and water, but the incredible thing was seeing the ground floors of the oldest houses in the center open and filled with young people with dreadlocks and the inevitable piercings, speaking at least four different languages, all drunk and at least stoned. After 30-45 minutes, we managed to get to the internal road to Otranto, and then from Otranto we took the expressway back to Maglie. It's a bit like saying I reached Bergamo from Linate only to come back to Milan, but at least we got home in an hour!

At 10:00 PM, Giovanni Lindo Ferretti made his entrance, accompanied by the ever-present Maroccolo, performing with a folk orchestra that played the rhythms of pizzica. Around 11:00 PM, he sang a version of Ko de Mondo that left the older fans in awe. I had fun listening to the reactions of two true stylish-intellectual-music aficionados from the south who, between bottles of wine, burst into laughter when we claimed that Copeland was an ex-Police member. Ferretti destroyed them; their best comment was, "These northern singers, look how they act so high and mighty, what a drag, where's the rhythm here, etc., etc., etc." Anyway, even though they were on the hunt for women all night, I believe they went home drunk, without their Police sunglasses and without any ladies....

I arrived in Salento a week early to leisurely explore the event's location and gather information on how best to get around. We arrived at 5 in the afternoon and, besides parking in the town near an internal road leading to Otranto, we set up camp on the grassy stretch under the shade of one of the few available trees and spent the afternoon chatting and eating grapes with a bunch of different people. If at first there were several meters between us and the others, by around 7:00 PM we preferred to start getting up and standing. At 9:00 PM it felt like being in a stadium. The Ucci started, and the spirited 70-year-old was forcibly pulled off the stage around 9:30 PM.

Dear anonymous, this review came out like this and this is what I felt I wanted to say about this album. Sometimes the technicalities don’t matter, or you don’t experience them, when an album conveys something that goes beyond just describing what happens in it. From this review, I've also learned that it’s totally impossible for me to talk about albums that I love very much and have loved for a long time now. Have you ever reviewed anything since you think you can do better?
