But if you had said it like that, it would have been another story. If you say "let's talk seriously," the conversation changes completely. You know very well that I can write "you have hearing problems" just as I can write "oh well, I'm just better at making fries." Nonsense, come on, otherwise it's such a drag.

Yes, but Enea, the fact that one has influenced the other does not mean at all that one is better than the other. Even if they are unintentionally influenced by Bach, Pink Floyd cannot be compared to Bach, and no one is better than the other as you wrote earlier. Don't turn the cards on the table; you talked about real music and better or worse, what a load of nonsense.

Here’s Hal, but I actually "have it in for Aeneas" because he thinks there’s an Absolute evaluation of everything. He started by saying that Psychedelia isn’t worth a damn compared to classical music. The central point of the rant is the evaluation of two different genres, and that’s what I think is bullshit. I completely agree that Davis & Armstrong can be compared, and I even vote: Davis all the way.

Aeneas, sure you can say that for you mashuggah is crap, period... but still, you don’t think about it. Not thinking about it, how do you find a fair and wise absolute value scale, and therefore, it is presumed, well reasoned? In my opinion, what you said at the beginning, that a composition by Beethoven is better than Interstellar Overdrive, is a huge load of crap. And not because Interstellar is better, far from it, but it’s not even better than Beethoven. They are different, plain and simple, 5 for both. And true music, doesn’t exist for crying out loud.

Hal, I completely agree with your latest post since you think like me after all. One could say that there is "the highest evolution of this musical form" (in this case, classical piano), and that's fine, I'm on board with that. What I say does not exist is comparing classical piano with Hendrix's guitar. Each is king in its own field, and there are terms of evaluation relative to specific fields. But there is no absolute term of evaluation for all music, as Enea claims, rating Meshuggah a 1 and Davis a 5, which in my opinion cannot be compared, simply put.

Anyway, the next time we all get together to snack on a review, at least one mom has to prepare the snack for everyone. For crying out loud. (for me, Nutella, thanks)

No Enea, you forgot a little footnote. You asked me to be serious, and for once I was, but always reiterating that it's less fun, and that there is no point because it's useless. Since I'm here to have fun, I won't be serious anymore, and when I see a review of Nofx, 1 flat. And I don't care if they are the Leaders of MeloPunk, 1 flat. No, because you haven't pulled out the punk weapon against me yet, you've forgotten it, for me punk=1 by default. But I already have my response ready: Punk = simplified rock, so crap rock, thus 1 flat. Until next time.

Josi_, it depends on the genre. The Daleks today are the best in Eminem's rap because they use violent sounds in contrast to a slow and fluid metric, something never seen or heard before. They employ unconventional tempos and have an incredible variety of beats, in addition to dealing with interesting and public domain themes. Eminem has been using the same meter for five albums; the beats are always the same ones that Dr. Dre has been making for 20 years, and he talks about the girls he sleeps with and how much he can’t stand his mom, which he couldn’t care less about. So now, the Daleks are the best, let’s say... but the Heads are also the best Acid Rockers... and how the hell do you compare Heads & Dalek? On tastes, which are subjective, so: pippone.

Mr. Green, you’re still not here... I was just giving an example. It’s not like I’m putting the helicopter on Coltrane, come on, lighten up a bit. We’re trying to reach a galactic brainstorm of absolute value systems here and you take every bullshit literally? Come on :D /// Antimo, I’m not getting it at all, but I’m glad you’re with me; wanking by myself is so sad, with group wanking it feels like going back to the good old middle school days.

And anyway, Aeneas, I want to make it clear that I've never ranked anything from two different contexts, not even jokingly. I give a solid 5 to Mos Def, 5 to Meshuggah, and 5 to Miles Davis, all undisputed maximum scores. Then I can give 4 to Cypress Hill, 4 to Slayer, and 4 to Wayne Shorter, but I still compare every musical proposal on the same ground. You suggest an absolute ranking, and in my opinion, it doesn’t exist.
