They became super famous with the cover of a George Michael song. No way, when KoRn took them on tour, they never played it; they usually opened the show with "Stuck" and closed with "Counterfaith"... and KoRn would jump back in on the same scratches to open theirs with "Shoots & Ladders." The George Michael cover was used to break into Europe, but "3 Dollars" didn't sell that well "here." The song that really made them famous (worldwide) is this one, from the second album: It was all planned: cameos from Snoop, Dre, Eminem, Tony Hawk, and even the actor from those ridiculous college movies from the '90s... and we had the complete commercial West Coast scene. To top it off, two months later the single with Method Man came out (he's nobody here, a demigod in New York) and the "beat" was by DJ Premiere (he's less than nobody here, in New York they bow down as he passes) plus at the end of the video, all the top New York rap scene shows up, and the USA (rap) circuit is complete. To top it all off, that summer they clashed with half the alternative music world (I think Trent Reznor threw a pretty good punch at him) and at Woodstock they were accused of inciting the crowd to commit arson and rape, big headlines in the newspapers and interviews with NBC. Nevertheless, they won the MTV award for I don't remember which category. In short, a lot of money was spent behind them, paying George Michael's rights wasn't enough. Hop Hop Hop, Din Din Din!

I watched Norton's latest film with De Niro and the Russian ex-model from start to finish. There's Norton acting like a bit of a fool, De Niro being all upright, and the Russian being a total tease. I even had the patience to restart megavideo after 70 minutes.

You rated the girls on a scale.

I wanted to say Lustmord, but Merzbow wouldn't be bad either.

It would be nice, quite a pairing. First, King Bong smashes your brain, then you sway your now-empty skull to the rhythm of the KTB. It would be amazing to have Merzbow at the end to send everyone home frightened, constantly looking over their shoulders.

Well, if someone doesn't give a damn about the "sound" in its purest sense (Chriss Goss), this album really isn't much, actually. Aside from THE drummer (who also wrote most of the tracks), there's an unnecessary bassist and four riffs that – without that sound – wouldn't amount to much. Then there's a nice singer, but nothing mind-blowing, and who cares about the singer? For sound lovers: an undisputed masterpiece. Almost inimitable. The only Kyuss songs that really shine even when stripped of their production were written by Bjork & Reeder. And they're on Sky Valley. Playing Freedom Run with an acoustic guitar sounds like a Ramones song made on ketamine.
