The guitar in the first track has a sound that can only be described as perfect. The rest of the album runs on very high ratings (and a much "richer" sound compared to the previous ones), but Against The Grain truly fills your ears. Besides being the best track of their career, it also features the best artwork here (but that's no surprise, Ipecac only makes them wonderful).

Ever more psychedelic New York City, and they might be the ones I like the most (discovered thanks to your review of... I don't remember when). The White Hills have more class, but they mess around too much and, above all, they don't have the machine-like drummer of these guys.

They advertise the fallback dates at Poetto, though. Groups arriving or departing from Cagliari usually spend an evening, often at Corto Maltese. Minca llà, zaccando mmolto.

Pools, more or less. The festival is itinerant, and it’s practically free if you know where the concerts are. You have to go on the first day, make friends with a German/English person and get their number; you call them since they paid and get to see the concert. Or you can spend three days on vacation paying for everything. In the early editions, Colour Haze played inside a Phoenician temple, but then they stopped giving permits for that. Anyway, they wake up early in the morning to set everything up in remote places, serious people.

If he had released an album every two years, they would all be masterpieces, but he made three a year. It's one of the rare cases where the best-selling/reissued/easiest to find albums are also the most beautiful. I've often come across some of his "minor" albums and found 10 to 15 minutes of pure brilliance interspersed with very ordinary stuff, plus they often feature 20-minute tracks that you can't skip. For me, the best is Lanquidity, or at least it's the one that maintains the highest standards throughout, despite being released in a year when he made a ton of music, like an album every two months. A nice album to buy is a live one from the Arkestra without him, who passed away recently; a kind of gritistizz in live. The one to avoid like the plague is him with John Cage… it scatters your brain all over the house like it’s a beauty.

I was about to contradict the first sentence but then I read the last one. You made me want to listen to the Afghan Whigs even though they suck; I’ll put on The Rise by Arbouretum.
