Todd Rundgren Liars

A substantial review for a similarly substantial CD, Rundgren makes his way into my list of pop tightrope walkers, I'd say among the 'happy' losers. Hats off to the master Socrates!
Danny Wilson Meet Danny Wilson
Voto:
Danny Wilson, Del Amitri are a great band, there are six or seven songs they've written that I could listen to endlessly, but at this point, what can we say about the Jayhawks? Will we find the time to talk about their voices too?

I listened to the entire CD a couple of times today. I didn't get up from my chair to say "oh" even once, and considering I was moved by "Parachutes."

May God (whatever that may be) preserve Neil Young and his voice for a long time to come...

The album isn't bad, good job Hal, but I think that instead of using it as a "forewarning" for the languid summer, I’ll save it for the recovering sun of the late September days... for the summer glimpses of June, for those slightly lazy evenings, I propose listening to track 6 from Radiance (CD 1 live in Osaka) by Keith Jarrett... just before getting a bit tipsy and heading down to the beach...
Go-Betweens Oceans Apart
Voto:
I’ll join the little chorus: welcome back go-betweens and well done El... there are already a couple of songs I’m listening to on repeat... (as if I still had the age and time to do that...)

For me, Chris Martin has an expressive voice, and I think he has written at least three or four quality songs over the years (and that’s not a small feat). I haven’t listened to X&Y yet either, so I can’t say anything specific about what the Coldplay have put together this time. However, I somewhat understand what Antonio means; there are bands and artists who can only repeat themselves to get by (there’s a guy who does it quite well, you know Van Morrison?), people who wouldn’t make sense changing or experimenting just for the sake of experimentation, because it’s not in their nature. The Coldplay, beyond their success, will only continue to make sense if Chris Martin can still come up with some beautiful songs. Otherwise, they will fade away too (at least from my CD playlists). On another note, I suspect Antonio Sapio had the critical review ready for quite some time (I could be wrong...). As for the hope of a return of the punks, I think punk cannot come back anymore (and I’m a bit sad about that). I’ll close by saying that I don’t agree with the negative review per se; at least on Debaser, I would love to read about only great albums, albums that we truly love, CDs that can drive you crazy (or almost)... of any de-gender they may be...
Ben Folds Songs For Silverman
Voto:
x Socrates the Bald (without -ino): I’m glad to hear that Folds is well regarded in your philosophical circles; I resist the temptation to open the Calvino parenthesis (Invisible Cities, etc.)... I found I Trawl (I can only speak well of it)
x samterra, NickGhostDrake: great in the records made by Ben Folds Five: just from the name, more plural (5) than they actually were (3, it’s true josi_ really a paradox that they were 3)
thanks to everyone for the generous votes...
