THE REVIEW

New album for the Go-Betweens, and once again the Australian band does not disappoint expectations, delivering a perfect album centered on an explosive mix of engaging rhythms and captivating melodies.
The album is the direct consequence of what Forster and McLennan have produced after their reunion, but it is more incisive and vigorous compared to their two previous works: the acoustic-pop perfection of The Friends Of Rachel Worth and the soft and delightful rock of Bright Yellow Bright Orange.
A common element of the three works, which has also become the main characteristic of the new Go-Betweens, is this deceptive lightness that hovers among the grooves of their records, projecting the listener in front of images worthy of the best Aki Kaurismaky.

The main theme of this new album is travel, movement, and every sense or perspective is dissected and analyzed, thanks to truly exceptional compositions.
The album itself is an open window on the landscapes, feelings, emotions, states of mind, and memories narrated by Forster and McLennan, so during the listening, cities and travel companions pass in review, people who read Dostoevsky and seem like Dostoevsky (Here Comes a City), ghosts that float like songs (Finding You), wandering knights (Boundary Rider) and a long series of other strange characters and situations that take us to the end of the journey (The Mountains Near Dellray ). The figure that emerges most of all in these 10 songs is that of absence, an looming, mysterious absence that lends the entire album an unexpected and unusual light... and then back on board, another train is departing.
