And this image here is among those few things that contributed to the mobilization against Vietnam. Today a similar image tickles us; we don’t care about what happens, just a bit of horror, but then at the coffee machine we’re shooting the breeze about the colleague’s miniskirt. That’s it. What to say about directors then? People who manipulate images, perhaps referencing these events. What about Apocalypse Now then, what about Coppola? If a photojournalist is a vulture, what is Coppola?

When journalists and photo reporters arrived at the extermination camps of Auschwitz and Dachau, it was obviously a shock. If you look closely, the majority of the photographs from those moments, the images of prisoners, of the pits, etc., are wide shots. In fact, all the photo reporters who rushed there faced many ethical difficulties in describing that horror by putting in their own "touch" (a bit of art) because what presented itself before their eyes was too overwhelming (like the mountains of dried corpses); it was “beyond.” Some couldn't even bring themselves to take pictures. And so, by consensus, the majority decided on the wide shot. To avoid hypocrisy. To avoid theatrics. To avoid the accusation of manipulation. To avoid their own influence on those images. Wide and long, raw and stark to show the vastness of evil without getting too much into detail. This is just to say that the same photo reporter knows they will be viewed negatively, finding themselves in an uncomfortable position, caught between opportunism and ambition. I admire these individuals who bear witness despite knowing they are regarded as hyenas.

Fucking photojournalists in search of glory, just because the guy won the Pulitzer???? "Hey mom, I'm going to Vietnam to take some pictures to win the ten thousand dollars of the Pulitzer, don't worry, I know how to dodge bullets." What the hell are you saying, Carlo? Being a war correspondent is not like participating in a cricket match! Not having done a damn thing? Hypocrisy? What a shame to hear something like that from an Italian. This is exactly what your government is instilling in your brain, that the "journalist" is just a hypocrite who does nothing but "seek glory." I mean journalist, as the photojournalist is a journalist with a camera instead of a pen; there’s no difference, in Italy he falls under the category of journalists, the badge is the same! The only difference is that in a war zone, the journalist can sit comfortably in a hotel lobby writing his article and still be respected by readers, the photographer cannot; he is obligated to be in the middle of it, in the war! I do not accept the equation photojournalist=paparazzo. Unacceptable.

Great as always (I read all of yours, but often I don't know what to say). An artist that I could "pass off" even to unsuspecting women looking for something to play in the background during meditation or yoga (just to illustrate how universal it is...)

(I would like to ask enbar something that doesn't relate to the discussion: why do you use the third person singular in the review, and then switch to the first at the end?)

bendy oh my god, the reviews written as a ruse to talk about something else fill the site, there are those who use music, those who use books, those who use movies, those who use photos, and those who use statues... I really wonder what kind of controversy this is, a controversy that has existed since the dawn of debaser. Should I say it? Yes, I’ll say it. How boring.

People, everyone is interested in photography otherwise we wouldn't be here discussing it. It's just a matter of context, resolvable by replacing the term "paintings" with "art/photo." This is a section that has struggled to get started, and that still has difficulty growing, indeed it's taking on a new form given the few contributions. Now, this is not a bad thing, rather it's a development. Development is always better than the death of the section itself, imho. That you perceive this development negatively surprises me a bit. If you want to steer this section back towards things of Art, please go ahead, just make sure to write the reviews accordingly (if we can avoid the arnolfate that would be better, but that's just my personal opinion). Regards!

I have to say, I’m sorry that photographers don’t get talked about, but it’s because I have a passion for it. It’s ultimately the reviewer’s choice to mention it or not; I have the choice to talk about it in the comments > (sorry if I keep insisting on this one).
