Welcome back, Pounds :) I’ve heard some pieces, and I was surprised too. The Lanegano is a mystery to me; I like it, I'm fascinated by it, but it doesn’t always convince me. I’m waiting for the official CD, and I’ll let you know then.

This was one of the records I sold the most when I was dealing in CDs. It’s not "my cup of tea," but you can't argue with its technique.

I would like to have a reflection though... Ok, this album disappoints because it's old-school, there's nothing innovative stylistically or musically, but we also need to consider the historical moment happening in the United States... The Beastie Boys are a national treasure, not an underground gem like Cannibal or Necro, maybe they want to convey a political message on a global level, reaching even those who never listen to hip hop but would listen to a Beastie album (I’m talking about all the white people who listen to rock), so rather "words" (we're under presidential elections in America, don't forget) than "music"... Maybe they felt the need to make their voice heard in this sense, without getting bogged down in metrics, sounds, and innovations... Look at the cover where the Twin Towers are still visible, maybe that’s the meaning: "...we are from old New York, we don’t want to be bent by Bush's New World Order and his followers (let’s not forget the three Beasties are Jewish, so particularly targeted), we are the old school, not like Outkast who with their EhyYah make you dance and forget what a mess we are in, we didn’t want to change our style otherwise you would have called us indifferent, losers,, this time we focused on the lyrics, read them, and pull out our old records, listen to them, all the words are there, we already told you we’re in the shit, and this album serves to remind you of that...". What do you think?

Good review, but Caz's comments are pure hip hop encyclopedia. I won't add anything, even though I know all the stuff he mentioned very well. Trust him, he really knows what he's talking about! :) Antimo, are you referring to me when you say "...as a cool support to do some coke in a jeep (what do you say, k?)"? I don’t understand the reference... I've never done coke, and I've only been in a jeep when I was in Africa... I really don’t like that phrase... I give the album a 3.5.
