Benzo, this record, here in Switzerland and in France, was released on February 21. I had the advanced copy for a month, but I waited for the official release before talking about it. To prevent unnecessary future misunderstandings, I need to shed light on a couple of things: 1 - I write reviews for a monthly magazine, a daily newspaper, a regional weekly, on my blog, and on Debaser, as well as other platforms (both print and virtual). I write about twenty reviews a month, if not more, regarding music. I also write about books and other amusements. This is just to say that I know what it means to be a reviewer. 2 - These activities allow me to make distinctions and to explore. I should mention that here in Switzerland, musical advertising is almost non-existent, so, unlike my Italian colleagues, Iām free from any constraints dictated by record marketing. However, when I write a review, I always take into account one very important factor: the target audience it is aimed at. When I write for the newspaper or the weekly, I write "orthodox" reviews because the target readers for these publications are vast, open-minded, and of all ages, so more than reviews, I make "descriptive presentations." When I write for the magazine, I consider a target (according to the latest statistics, about 10,000) that is more informed, interested, and receptive to reviews and/or critiques and to some flashes of madness, but in any case, I must be objective; if a record sucks, it sucks (which is not the case here, anyway). Here on Debaser (and on my blog), I start from the assumption that all readers, without exception, are very knowledgeable, āprofessors,ā like you, so they certainly donāt need my "presentations." Before joining Debaser, I had the choice among various platforms, Ondarock, Kalporz, etc.... I chose Debaser precisely because it is more FUN and DISRUPTIVE and PASSIONATE. Because here I can talk about a record in a radical, imaginative, or personal way, as if "at the bar with friends," and this is precisely because I have high regard for the cultural versatility of the patrons of this virtual café. Do you understand? Here on Debaser, I have the freedom to do as I please: I write a little assignment (I've done that already), I write nonsense (already done), I write fantasies (already done), and I will do other experiments, that is, what I feel as Kosmo, and not as editor-in-chief, reviewer, etc. - and above all, not what others want to hear. -- If this doesnāt sit well with you, I canāt help that, Benzo, but let me say it. We all understood how you think. Now calm down. You have my respect because your reviews are well-crafted and often interesting, even though in my opinion, they would be more justified on other platforms. But thatās just my personal opinion, which doesn't undermine the quality of your work. In short, I would never give a 1 to your reviews because they are of a different genre than mine. Then thereās a factor that unites us: the passion for music. Donāt forget that, Benzo, in this we Debaserians are all the same, neither more nor less.
