It was way back in 2002 and, as often happens, I was doing my thing with MTV playing in the background.
Suddenly, the notes of The Day After Tomorrow by Saybia began to echo through the room. I was completely captivated by the immediacy of the melody, simple yet never clichéd, at times very stylish. I bought their debut album blindly (preceded by a few EPs and some demos) and was blown away by it.
The band hails from Denmark and features a five-member line-up: vocals and acoustic guitar, guitar, bass, drums, keyboards, and samples. The lyrics, with melancholic texts reminiscent of the snowy plains of the north, give meaning to the soft musical foundations, rich in sonorities, creating calm and relaxing atmospheres. It’s all enhanced by the voice of Soeren, the leader and songwriter of the group, with masterful interpretations.
Since that day, I haven't been able to do without them... If I were to make comparisons, I would liken them to bands like Kent or Travis.
Also, check out their second work, "These Are The Days," released in 2004.
I was literally struck by them, so much so that I bought the CD blindly, without ever regretting it.
His voice is stunning, powerful, and melodic, poignant and ethereal and provides a notable contribution to this beautiful debut album.
