Very Central European, very "bitter theater"... truly fascinating. Welcome back VxS, it's a pleasure to read you again.

I agree on the cerebral nature of A Short, anyway I see that we agree on the SMWM and I'm pleased about that. I love how you can shift from an album like this to an elegiac one like McKennitt's :-)) amazing Rob! I hadn't made the connection, I just noticed it now! I like open-minded people ;-)

Rob, let's set aside the album for a moment. Your review is a masterpiece. Perhaps one of the best, if not THE best I've read about this album, even better than what I've written elsewhere. Perfect, and I feel touchée, I’m one of those who made a fuss on my blog about the Radio Dept :)))) but Donnie Darko never, horror! ;) The album: An album that amazes but it's better to put it aside before it starts to make you feel queasy, then rediscover it (in six months, in a year) with the same pleasure and surprise, a bit like Bright Light by Interpol. That's how I treated Interpol, and I don't regret it, and I'll do the same with this one, in fact, I've already set it aside a bit... Rob, have you already heard Black Mountain? They’re definitely worth it, I'm sure you’ll like them; they're from Vancouver :D

One of my desert island discs, even though I love London Calling so much, this is my masterpiece by The Clash. I remember when it was released, what an event. The triple vinyl, back then it was quite a bold move, and they were even accused of being verbose, while for me the expression "too much grace" was fitting but not negative; on the contrary, it was a delight! In those days, albums were consumed more slowly, savored... I don't know... I'm listening to it now, it's the moment of The Equalizer, I'm already enjoying knowing that The Call Up is about to come (It's time for you not to heed the call-up...). Nostalgia spread across 36 tracks, every time I dance to this Rebel Waltz and to the sound of the violin in Lose This Skin, then I feel like going around again, on The Street Parade towards Version City, once again, One More Time, or rather One More Dub, then I turn at Corner Soul, crossing paths with The Magnificent Seven and The Washington Bullets who, along with The Leader, are playing The Sound Of The Sinners... Let's Go Crazy! Look Here, Somebody Got Murdered, Up In Heaven (Not Only Here) --- MONUMENTAL DISCO! If Music Could Talk! :)

Ehm... I don't really have much time to make lists, but anyway Guevo, what can I tell you, romantic music (like Michael Bolton, Iglesias father and son, and similar stuff), new age (for example, the albums from Windham Hill or Narada, great bestsellers among women, while men preferred the ECM new age), ethnic music (the Putumayo series where you’d find stuff like lullabies from Siberian mothers or the cries of Bushmen shamans), Buddha bar music and the like (you know, music for lounging), sacred music (like Native American chants, Gregorian songs, gospel/spiritual), Wiccan sabbath music in the woods (ancient Celtic music I used to get from Ireland), that kind of stuff, stuff I ordered exclusively for female clients. All in all, a lot of melody and a lot of music from other cultures and traditions. If there was any man buying these records, he was very welcome, but unexpected. Of course, women also bought rock music, but usually always melodic, or if heavy, then better if performed by women. The riot girls, the dark/goth ladies, etc. but these don’t count, they appeal to men equally, EVEN THOUGH FOR DIFFERENT REASONS. Now that I’ve made the list, I don't have the time or the desire to further justify this last statement. ---- Referring back to what Hal said... when I was ten years old, I wanted to play either the piano or the guitar, but instead they sent me to ballet (sigh!!!). More “ladylike,” they said. Note well, my parents adored rock, and their influence in this respect gave me a lot. But getting me to learn an instrument? Not a chance, “it’s not for girls.” Yep, yep...

ps: well done Giordy, we change and with us the vibrations that move us change. It’s an unavoidable evolution, it happens to everyone, sooner or later.
