By the way, speaking of sounds, check out the new Wire if you get the chance, it's remarkable... I’ll chime in too, it’s a "nice" album that doesn’t make me want to listen to it on a quality stereo after an mp3 preview, and only for the sound. I remember when people used to listen to records through headphones in stores, even though that was a "wrong" way to preview them; how many times a record was returned to me because it didn’t "sound" at home like it did in the store... I’ve always liked the distinction between hearing and listening (when it comes to conversation), but when it comes to music, I've always thought that we "hear" the sound and the rhythm (not just with the head but also with the body), while melody and harmony are "listened" to... Music is perhaps the only stimulus to the eardrum that involves both acts, in my opinion. The excellent kind, of course. Or at least it used to be that way.
