Faust vs. Dälek Derbe Respect, Alder

I don’t even listen to half an album of rap a year, only because of the Faust, but that’s obvious! :) “American Rap Panorama = MILLIONS OF RECORDS SOLD. Eminem, N.E.R.D, Snoop Dogg, etc.”... you can tell me all the names you want, it doesn’t really strike a chord: apart from the fact that I know for sure that S.D. has been rapping since the early '90s, while the Dalek have been working since '98 (I mean, when Juventus proposed the Trezeguet-Vieri swap despite the 26-30 years age difference, who was right? Juventus or Inter?), it is clear that it’s not really about the “fame-non fame” issue, but about the peculiarities of the type of music, and in my house rap resonates more with young people than psych-ambient-rock, so it’s somewhat advantageous for the Faust. But I know you’re going to tell me that today’s youth prefer psych-noise-rock, and at this point, I’ll call Tiresias.

But for heaven's sake, I absolutely do not condemn Irmler and company; they rightly reclaimed the fame they never managed to achieve before '90. But from there to talking about a desire for experimentation is quite a leap; perhaps we can say that in between one experimentation and another, a little change doesn’t hurt.

So, God-of-here-God-of-there up to a certain point. But there’s more. The will to experiment of Faust? Uhm, uhm, I don’t know. I mean to say that Faust made a comeback in '95 precisely regarding the aforementioned album, with a remixing operation of various scraps from sessions decades earlier. Then other remixes and various philologically interesting little things but made solely for the purpose of turning a profit. So I don’t know how much of an experimental nature there can be even in this choice, in this pairing with one of the fastest-growing rappers in the American scene. Who knows, who knows.

Anyway, apart from the blessings, as usual, it's a sharp reasoning but leaky like a nice piece of Leerdammer. Aside from the fact that after a year Naomi might still be hot, but after 30 I wouldn't put my name on it (and even Emanuele Filiberto can understand this comparison, eh!), it is quite likely that the level of tolerance has increased (or rather, the level of awareness, chezzy, in the sense that we know how things went, then try really to distribute this record to those who listen to ggggiovine music... you'll see what level of tolerance). But if you want to place "Faust" and the recent "Rien" on the same level or something like that, you're committing heresy: the Faust have not ended, but the re-proposition of what was one of the peculiar characteristics of Kraut-Rock (remember? Your beloved Neu! of Fur Immer, Hallogallo and Negativland), namely the continuous study of rhythm as seen in "Rien," sounds at least already heard and assimilated, and "Why don't you eat carrots" is a distant memory. Now don't tell me that "Rien" and this record have visionary stuff like in "Faust," the difference is obviously and symptomatically abyssal. Self-evident. But really, really, eh.

I knew it, I knew it... I should have added the disclaimer "Do not mention Bennato's name in any potential rebuttal"!!! :)

Absolutely right, well done Lazzaro. Just imagine that I, at the ripe age of 22, first came across the name Bindi when he appeared ten years ago in San Remo with "Letti," a piece that was mistreated by the usual stupid jury of the tube. But he had already hit rock bottom, forgotten by everyone and without a penny, unjustly. I agree, voice, also regarding Modugno, often labeled as having created a repertoire that is too much like light music. But that's another story.

A rather curious union this between Irmler and Oktopus, for a record of decent quality, still exquisitely Faustian on more than one occasion ("Dead Lies" docet). This enthusiasm makes me think quite a bit, as it seems clear to me that for logistical reasons, the vein of the Germans way "a long time ago" has at least weakened, and the excitement for Dio-di-qua-Dio-di-là should at least be reformulated in light of how, 30 years after "So Far," "Faust IV," and company, the Fausts are no longer "God," or one lives on pre-established authority until the end of the world.

Hey stringone, the grammatical oversight on the "acquile" of Dante is okay, but the quote is right, actually bad for you that you don’t know... :) It’s from the "coda" of the fabulous "Passaggi a Livello" from "Patriots" from '80... Mi-ster Ein-Stein Ooooon Theeee Beach! bye bye
