I can't follow you..... you put "Amore mi dai" by Paola e Chiara (which even confuses you????????) on the same level as Moonlight Shadow?? And then you bring up the value of Dylan or De André as if I had made absurd comparisons. Let me explain (I’ll try): I don’t look at the "marketability" of music; I either like it or I don’t. I have no particular preconceptions. And I believe that the song by M. Oldfield in question is played really well, has definitely beautiful guitar riffs, and a stunning female voice..... it’s quite catchy? So what?? I didn’t make the slightest comparison between the artists you mentioned and Moonlight Shadow..... if you reread, you’ll find a half "comparison" with "Every Breath You Take" by The Police, which I listen to with the same pleasure...... sorry if I respond in such a peremptory manner, but you come to tell ME (who has 3/4 of Dylan's discography, 2 books on the lyrics and the musical scores, and who has seen him live) that: "You can't ignore the fact that 'blowin’ in the wind' has a significance and meaning much different from a 'little song' like Oldfield's, don't you think?" So you've argued your thesis very poorly. Try again, let’s see if you can make yourself understood.
Regarding Tom Waits, "Swordfishtrombones" is absolutely among my favorites.... but if you didn't like it, then I can strongly recommend "Mule Variations," "Small Change," "Alice," "Foreign Affairs," "Big Time (live)," "Rain Dogs," "Blood Money," and to avoid albums (which I love) like "Bone Machine," "The Black Rider," "Real Gone" (all in strict random order, obviously) bye!

Take the worst Ramones album, and you'll definitely enjoy it more than this junk.
The Housemartins Now That's What I Call Quite Good

Well, maybe they left me with a much better memory than the so-called "big bands"... for example, I prefer 20,000 of them to the Eagles (even if the genre is totally different). My choice didn't fall on the flashy debut because this CD is the only way to listen to "Caravan Of Love" and more... at least unless you have, like me, the "Christmas Vinyl". Their best album is undeniably "London0 Hull4". Well, perhaps you’re right, the "leap" was made only "in my heart" :P !!!

Thank you, Massimo, but I didn't experience them firsthand or rather I was.....11 years old. Anyway, I don't (finally!!!) quite agree with you when you say they never made the leap....they churned out a ton of great tracks, especially considering the short life they had!!! And it’s not even my genre, even though I go crazy for them and the Smiths!

Beautiful but too "heavy" for my tastes (I prefer the two predecessors)
