I walked out in the streets last night / I heard a young girl say to her mother / "Did you watch Big Brother?" / I knew I was listening to the living dead.... From The Living Dead by Julian Cope

It's an album that gains more and more value over time; maybe five stars are too many, but four could be just right. It's not a masterpiece, but after all, it's more than just a good album!

What I like the most are the last two lines of the verse "And you know she will trust you / Because he touched your perfect body with his mind." The meaning and beauty of the song owe a lot to the interchangeability of the pronouns; in fact, in the second line, Cohen sings "And you think maybe you will trust him / Because he touched your perfect body with his mind," while the third and final verse ends like this "And you know you can trust her / Because she touched your perfect body with her mind."

And you want to travel with her / And you want to travel blind / And you know that she will trust you / For you've touched her perfect body with your mind.

You're right, I'll try to do better.

In short, I find it rather ugly and weak (the cover). The best cover of Cohen was by John Cale; his Hallelujah set the standard. Very beautiful is also I Can't Forget covered by the Pixies, and Tower of Song reinterpreted by Robert Forster... in the Italian scene, on the other hand, the best (in my opinion) was Eugenio Finardi; his version of The Land of Plenty is a true gem.
