Anyway, hey, the album probably owes 20% of its sales to the title and the title track. Let's say that, without taking away from the fact that they've done well, the idea of openly opposing Bush and America could also be seen as a well-crafted marketing maneuver: sooner or later, someone would have thought of it...
The album is there: good rock, the melodic and hard elements alternate nicely, the more melodic songs reveal themselves, like "wake me up..." and "Boulevard of Broken Dreams," the specialty of Green Day, but alas, nothing can change the fact that times have changed. The band has been around since the '80s, folks, they are old now. Billie Joe doesn't leave the house without pounds of foundation and black eyeliner; the desire to "exaggerate" and shock only leads them to be... shocking, but in a bad way... and then, folks, the album is C O M M E R C I A L ! I'm sorry, but that's the sad reality. It's no longer the time of Dookie, hard rock, and punk; it's no longer the time for youthful nonsense, for "Good Riddance," it's something that eventually comes, and now it's their turn. For Green Day, it's the end.
