I don't know much about Green Day, as I haven't had many opportunities to listen to their previous albums, but I wanted to review American Idiot; I must say that with this album, Green Day hasn't delved much into their musicality, in fact, they have become very commercial!
The previous albums, especially Shenanigans and Warning, were endowed with a genre that was not very catchy and tough, it was pure rock! Now they have created an album suitable for everyone, but I don't exclude that it's a good album: it consists of 13 tracks and I must say that each song reveals an aspect of Green Day; American Idiot particularly reveals the ideals of the band, it's an anthem against America and the American people specifically defined as (idiots)! In this track, Green Day sings the desire to stand out, to rebel, there's indeed an atmosphere of protest, but not only in this song, but throughout the album, because in most singles, Billie Joe sings with the loudspeaker. Instead, Jesus Of Suburbia reveals Green Day's specific genre, thanks to these noisy guitars, that hyperactive drumming, and so much drive and energy! Then there's Holiday, one of the catchiest and most enjoyable songs on the album with a cheerful and frantic rhythm; two other gems of the album are undoubtedly Boulevard Of Broken Dreams, melancholic, but especially diabolical, in my opinion the most beautiful point of the song is right at the end... it's when those guitars attack with that haunting and very surprising melody.
Another aspect of the band in my opinion is the melancholic and a bit sad if you like, especially concentrated in Wake Me Up When September Ends, which translated into Italian means wake me up when September ends... well, the title alone makes us reflect; then the rhythm and melody are quite calm, accompanied by Billie Joe's distinctive vocal timbre.
What else to say, in my opinion, Green Day could have done better, being aware of their talents, but it's undoubtedly a good album! And long live American Idiot!! They're absolutely right in that song!
This results in 'American Idiot,' a public denunciation of George W.'s administration set like a rock opera.
'American Idiot' finally surpasses the (many) limits of its own genre, while obviously always remaining attentive to the immediacy it has always sought.
"Jesus Of Suburbia is a truly remarkable and well-crafted song that, despite its length, flows smoothly and can be considered one of the best tracks on the entire album."
Green Day is like this now, and in a way, it’s perhaps a good thing since... we might get to hear some nice punk rock piece, even if commercial.
"Don’t want to be an American idiot, don’t want a nation under the new media…"
"Alienation has taken over the individual, who appears de-identified, deprived of the identity they were born with."
This damn blockbuster rock’n’roll only suitable for stupid kids... this FUCKING adolescent rock, banal in everything.
I will never forgive Green Day for ruining one of the most exciting nights of my life.
Green Day have taken an incredible leap in quality! This album... is the absolute masterpiece of the band!!!
It’s a concept album in every respect! No discussion!
