Pink Floyd Wish You Were Here

Well... the most "interesting" anecdote I know about Syd involves his life after his brain completely melted down. Someone told me he was locked up in a mental asylum, where he stayed until his death, and there he spent all the last years of his life sitting cross-legged, with his nose two centimeters from the padded wall of his little room, holding an acoustic guitar, playing all day long. I don't know how true this little story is, but it certainly captures the genius and the madness of that man. But can we remember for a moment "Interstellar Overdrive"???

Yes... you can't just listen to a song here and a song there from this album... it's mandatory to put the record on, sit down, and not move until it's time to put on the second disc, sit back down, and not move until the end. I adore "Mother," it's fabulous... but my favorite PF album is undoubtedly Wish You Were Here. Ah, I bought "Live at Pompeii"... I think it's the most beautiful concert I've ever seen...

Only the Foo Fighters remain on the list of disappointments, if their new album turns out to be crap... I’ll start listening to DJ Bobo... at least no one expects anything from him and he doesn’t disappoint.

So, despite a charming idiot cutting me off and wrecking my bike and my knee, I managed to get a hold of "Out of Exile" and listen to it a few times in my little hospital room. Except for 2 songs, tracks 7 and 8, the only two that show a hint (and I mean a hint) of grit and originality (this term might be a bit bold). The album, in my view, is just a compilation of the leftovers from the first work; nothing more. They took the discarded tracks from "Audioslave" and randomly slapped them onto another CD. Did you notice that every song – aside from the aforementioned two – has the exact same damn structure? Beginning: calm, gentle guitar arpeggios; middle: explosion of "fake aggression"; end: truly mundane. So, Cornell, you have a nice voice, okay... you tend to impersonate Robert Plant a bit too much... but you sing well... (though you've really flaccid out a lot). Morello: experiment with some damn new riffs! some damn new effects, since you like effects so much! -you sound like Iommi... an entire career spinning the same old soup... Iron Man, N.I.B, etc... all very similar (and I still love the Sabbatins). Drummer, there are other time signatures beyond 4/4... throw in a syncopation every now and then, but it doesn't change much! I propose we go back to class, huh? I could play the stuff you do after 2 weeks of drumming. Tattoo man, I won't say a damn thing to you because you're already too frustrated as it is... especially when you had those little braids like a little Indian. Thank goodness "Out Of Exile" was supposed to be a much more badass rock album than Audioslave... go save the children in Ethiopia, that's what you're better at!

I would say there is no need to add anything else to comment on this review.

Aaaaaaaah!!!!!!!! Where is this infamous world headed?? The QOTSA release a record below expectations; SOAD are about to bring in Avril Lavigne on vocals and mini-moog; Head from Korn becomes worse than an entire circle of elderly people from the sports club in San Giovanni Rotondo, humbly devoted to Padre Pio; Keenan's brain is melting like the radiator of a Duna after a non-stop Eboli-Rovereto trip on August 15th. And the Audioslave... the Audioslave who not long ago said they created a record much more aggressive than the first; a violent and incisive rock... I haven't listened to it yet, I've only heard those 2 torture tracks on their website... no violence or incisiveness at all. Damn that * of * * ** of a * * * * **!!!!!! Is anyone going to decide to make a decent record?? Caz, moon, clito... any of you recommend me a damn rock album that will make me enjoy a bit, one from this year, so that I can say: "oh, I'll remember 2005 for this fantastic album!"
