Mr. Nobody is more "unpleasant" than I am, :-) but he said some "sacrosanct" things ("absit iniura verbis..."). I would add that it is pure critical blindness, in the case of death, to want to separate the musical "wheat" from the "tares" of the content because it is evident that it is an inextricable tangle. The music of that genre cannot be appreciated, in my opinion, without considering the subculture that inspires it: to say otherwise is hypocrisy, as true followers of death would certainly confirm. If opening up means trying to understand the phenomenon without, um, demonizing it, I'm on board; if, however, it means culpable indifference towards an aberrant worldview, simulating independence and supposed musical content, I do not accept it. Giov, the example you give is, let me say, barely relevant to the issue; indeed, in some respects, it adds fuel to my fire. I look forward to knowing "what other things should be considered." Complaining, as I see some do, about an alleged intolerance when the enthusiasts of the genre are incredibly sectarian seems at least daring to me.

So, let's go in order. Every time I've had the chance to comment on an album like this, I've never given scores, having listened to only a few tracks, even when the reviewer, and this is not the case, would have deserved a thorough thrashing. I usually target the groups in question, but I've never attacked anyone on a personal level, which, on the other hand, happens regularly in the replies. I don't mind the accusation of antipathy, also because I'm used to writing and saying what I think, without seeking convenient balancing acts or winks.
The arguments used (genocide, incitement to murder, antisemitism... whether it’s cunning or dangerously naïve, I don’t know; it matters little) are enough for me to give a negative judgment on the merits. Also because, I reiterate, the music of many of these groups is, for me, bothersome noise without these, let's call them by their name, apologies for crime. It's not possible to separate, as the nice "giov" pretends to believe, music from everything else. One cannot say, "I don't share the arguments, but I like death metal," because they are inextricably linked.
I'm not "closing" myself off from trying to understand why some young people find it appealing; I attempt to provide some answers, but aesthetically and ethically ("Aesthetics is the mother of ethics," said Brodsky) certain ideas, and thus certain music, must be opposed.

We also agree on this. "GoodBye..." and "Captain Fantastic..." are very nice too.

I am very attached to this album, although I also really liked the different "Californication." It's worth mentioning the name of the "deus ex machina" of the project, who deserves no small amount of credit: Rick Rubin.

Good one, too bad you ruined it... I’ll take care of it for Christmas. :-)

I was wondering why this review, just out of curiosity, doesn’t appear among the most appreciated ones, given that it has the same average as others. Thank you in advance to the kind editors who will take the time to respond to me.

But look at what vinyl you're making me dust off... I'm working together with Gato this morning. :-)

I support you all the way... "Dear God" is a magnificent piece, further proof of Patridge's remarkable writing abilities, as well as a musician. My thoughts on the Blue Nile lie forgotten in some corner of the site: think about it. :-)

Sure, try writing something about "Nonsuch," so it can keep my lonely review of "Skylarking" company. Or shall we revive the "Dukes Of Stratosphere"?

I have a strange relationship with this album, even though I consider myself part of the "fivers." It has always given me the impression of being a real "schmoozer," certainly talented, but excessively narcissistic and, in some respects, overrated. I still think that this formula of the "Voice," high-level pop, is his best expression. I don't hesitate to admit that the 5 is tied to shamelessly sentimental reasons.
