In fact, it is referred to as Remastering or more precisely a remastered version. It's a bit like restored films in cinema; it's not about doing everything from scratch. It's about giving a polish and a bit more shine to the original Masters, perhaps digging up some bonus tracks (many works from the eighties were limited by the capacity of vinyl, which was lower than that of CDs).
