For Frosty: In fact, in the case of the Krauts, it must have been the lack of light that posed the biggest challenge to achieving decent images. According to an expert opinion, what you and I termed video noise is actually the grain of the film used for shooting (the detail in the images would rule out tape), which in this case had to be high sensitivity (let's say 800 ASA), resulting in a lot of grain.
