It's a work that represents a regression (or evolution, depending on your point of view) compared to "LP5." If they had cut a few tracks, it would have been nice, because some pieces have a structure, a crescendo, or interesting melodic openings (see "Pirr"). Nonetheless, it remains an album that glimpses the abyss into which they will plunge and from which they will (partially) emerge with "Oversteps" and "Move of Ten."

It's the album that, for me, marks the beginning of Autechre's decline. A work that, unfortunately, hints at what their music will become: a cerebral and self-referential exercise in style. Perhaps with "Move of Ten" they will return to producing music that doesn't just seek self-annihilation, but also conveys vibrations, if not emotions. And to think that just four years earlier "Chiastic Slide" had been released: a whole other story.

The voyeurism and morbidity of reality shows have annoyed me since the days of Big Brother. However, Elio playing the theme from "Popeye" on the flute has its charm.

It's a disc that's overly heterogeneous, divided between ambient and melodic openings and tracks reminiscent of the experiments on "Untilted," some of which are unbearable or on the verge of parody. It's a transitional album, in short, that looks to the recent past while hinting at the evolutions of "Oversteps." We're still far from not only their masterpieces but also from works like "Chiastic Slide" or "LP5," which I consider vastly superior. Mediocre.

Not unforgettable the Sanremo piece, but I liked them with the cover of "Splendido Splendente." They speak well of it, I'll try to listen to them.

As often happens, 16 years later I find myself forced to reconsider my opinion. No criticism of their ability to manipulate sounds: we are talking about two masters. The discussion about the album is different: the (almost) total erasure of melodies, the rhythmic experimentation taken to excess, and the continuous shifts in register make "Untilted" unbearable. With the exception of "Fermium" and perhaps "Iera," the rest annoyed me, making me want to skip the tracks or stop the playback. A complicated and irritating work, and monsieur @[Eneathedevil] will agree with me.

I remember it being a bit dull. I recently listened to "Walking Wounded" again and found it equally monotonous, not exciting at all. And anyway, "Looking for Love" is a great track ;-)
