Very valid review! Attached to the double best, there is, or at least there was in the first pressing, a really captivating collection of unreleased tracks, to say the least superlative: above all, the acoustic version of Tom Courtenay sung by Hubley, then Magnet, Ashes on the Ground, Decora without electricity... in a kind of composed and intimate sound narrative. A sort of concept more beautiful and fluid than the best, which still represents a useful and educational introduction to the art of YLT, generally better expressed in the long format of the albums. The lack of the dissonances from The Evil that Men Do, from the first album, is perhaps the only flaw.

Summer Sun is a beautiful album, pleasant, sunny, less adventurous than other ventures by YLT, less Genius and more Love, but a must-have. A work of a certain maturity and exploration this time in quiet grandeur. I loved Season of the Shark, but now I venerate Today is the Day, the perfect synthesis of the album. Today is the Day EP gathers valuable outtakes where the humor, absent here, returns.

Yes, great review for a very nice album! Yo La Tengo are an institution of indie! My favorite tracks are: Beanbag Chair, Black Flowers (unusually sung by McNew), and Mr. Tough. The album suffers neither dips in tension nor inspiration and is rich in variations and surprises.

Beautiful and straightforward the review. I love YLT and know their entire discography. This collection of outtakes, generally relegated to the margins by critics, is valid. Personally, with her fragile soprano, Hubley captures in the wonderful cover of Beat Happening's "Cast a Shadow" the first peak of artistic and interpretative excellence. The other gem is the cover of Jackson Browne's "Somebody's Baby": submerged in a cascade of distortions, the melody, instead of being lost, is exalted.

I enjoyed the review, I adore the album, for me it’s an absolute must. Personally, I would define this album as more "dreamy" than "alien." The clear serenity that emerges from the various tracks seems to be something achieved in life, with life, not beyond it, not alien and detached (to put it another way, "finding the dawn within the dusk"). The first three tracks, soft and drenched like dew, are the pulsating movement of a perfect sequence in relaxation. The cover of George McCrae is a divertissement pascaliano. YLT! YLT! YLT! Forever and never!

Beautiful review! YLT have been my favorite band for years! The albums I prefer are "And then nothing turned itself inside-down" and "I can hear the heart beating as one." This one is also very good, and I recommend the deluxe version, which boasts the stunning cover of "I saw the light" by Todd Rundgren and the cheerful and distorted "Super Kiwi." Anyway, the perfect review of the album was written by R.M. Rilke in his Duino Elegies, when he said: <<Sentire è svanire>>.

Great review! I bought the mc in the summer of 1986, when I was 13! I have a certain emotional bond; artistically, they are irrelevant. The choice of the completed mixes on the album for the hit tracks, Missile F1-11 and 21st C. Boy, has never seemed right to me; I would have included the ultraviolence mix of the first one and the videoclip version of the second.

Great review! Every now and then I still listen to them... this "best" is definitely preferred over "Flaunt It." The mixes at the time of the artisanal cut-and-paste of Love Missile F1-11 were nice, unfortunately not present here (Ultraviolence Mix, Bangkok Mix, and Japanese Mix). They were histrionic. Their songs were fun, assuming they composed more than just one...
