You’re right, an album that stands between two masterpieces. That reimagining of heavy metal in a Jesus & Mary Chain style, with an eye on the Replacements, was tough. Mellon Collie, which also ventured into symphonic tones, was monumental. But I also greatly appreciate the subsequent ones, Adore and Machina, which leaned more towards pop accessibility. You’re right to highlight Corgan's verses. Years ago, I read several of his poems in a bookstore, and they reminded me of the sharp lyrics of Joy Division. Of course, next to Rilke's collections, they felt a bit out of place.
