What a beautiful proposal! Ah, the "loss of the aura" of the work of art, which becomes a commodity/cultural good demanded by the masses, is not a loss of quality of the work, but of sacredness. Benjamin himself refers to the educational and democratic value of popular, reproducible art. What diminishes is the rituality with which it is communicated. We can agree on this. That we enjoy rock, the "music not to be consumed," means - I believe - that even "without the sacred aura," we like popular music in its offering, but not massified in aesthetic taste. Nor (too) instrumentalized.

Great review, CC! I've always really liked The Final Cut; there are some beautiful pieces like Gunner's Dream, Sourhampton Dock, Final Cut. It matters little that it's the fourth and fifth side of The Wall, Waters' first solo album, which is a bit too melodramatic. Someone has to take the helm when the ship is sinking. The works under Gilmour's direction are all inferior. At least here, there is a sense of poetry.
